I've been gathering materials and tools the past two months and finally got around to attempting a neck knife sheath. I'm happy with the results, but I'd like more retention, so I need to pick up a heat gun to tweak it.

Nicely done, it really looks like you got a good fit on the knife. I think your retention issues aren't you need to tweak the kydex but rather you don't have any rivets close enough to the mouth of the sheath. See how in your last photo the sheath on the left has the rivets all the way at the top. I think you might have better luck putting the rivets high and tight and then possibly using the heat gun to reduce retention to the desired effect.

Good luck,
Chris

In thinking more about my advice I recalled I had done it differently. I've made very few kydex sheaths but here is the one that I am most happy with.

On this sheath I formed it to be at least a 1/2" further up the handle. I then trimmed the kydex back until I had the retention I desired.

Hope this helps,
Chris

Thanks guys! It has enough retention that if I flip it upside down and shake it, it won't come out. But if I grab the nose of the sheath, sling the knife down, and pull up violently, it will come out. Granted, I don't think there will ever be a situation that that will happen, but it's piece of mind lol
