I'm mainly a slipjoint user, but at last weekend's local gun show I picked up a Spyderco Military in S30V. It's really a very impressive knife, and the ergonomics on it are wonderful. It's way larger than what I'm used to carrying, but its so light weight, it's no matter.
My only concern is this; when I was looking at the display model, I knew I had to buy it. I told the dealer I wanted one, and he put the display one back in his case, and got me a brand new one in the box from under his table. I just put the box in my backpack and headed home. I actually didn't open up the box (my mistake, I know) until yesterday. It's in excellent shape, but there is a screw missing from the scale on the right hand side of the knife! It came out of the box like this:
It doesn't seem to affect the knife really, but it's bugging the heck out of me. Looking down into the hole, there's no trace of any thread locker or anything. I think it just got overlooked at the factory. Will Spyderco just send me a new screw, or will I have to ship the knife in to them to have it put in there? I intend on calling them, but I have to wait until late this afternoon once I get out of work. I really don't want to ship it in, but if I have to, so be it.
That being said, this is my first Spyderco in probably 10+ years, and I see what all the hype is about! I see a couple more models in my future now...
Thanks for any input,
