I'm new to the forums and the whole collecting knives as a hobby, so bare with me and I'll be up to par in no time. :)

Today I got my first non-folding 'survival' bowie knife.

Sorry it's all smudged, I've been really handsy with it. It was dull when it arrived so I have been sharpening it.

Anywho, it's a 440A steel (according to the website). It came with the sheath... which needs a few modifications, but nothing serious or costly.

Just wanted to post this up and hear what everyone thinks... OH! and I wanted to say Hi :P .

Hi there and welcome. :)

Looks a lot like an Eisbar-II. Those sell for about a couple of euros around here. The quality isn't exactly what I'd call high on the blade or on the sheath. The sheath, for example, completely lacks an inner sheath, so the blade is likely to stick through it at some inopportune moment and stab you in the thigh. :( It's not a knife I'd want to use, I'm sorry to say.

That is not a survival bowie in the least. Take a look at the Coldsteel Bushmaster or the Chris Reeves single piece line.

Welcome to BF!!

We all have to start somewhere!! I know I didn't necessarily start with the highest quality knives. We buy, and we learn.

So, yuo come to BF to show off youyr new knife. Without even asking you've got advice on future buys- we're already spending your money- but that's ok. That;s how we role here. These guys have spent a lot of mine too.....

Anyhow, you need a mora. I personally recommend a clipper in carbon steel.

Welcome to BF. For your next purchase, ask around here first. There is a lot of collective wisdom on knives here. Again welcome.

Didn't really come to BF to show off, I came more for the advice and just to take a crack at learning some stuff. Still have a long way to go and always will be welcome to future buy ideas or opinions.

Thanks everyone!
