Here's some photos of my latest sheath project, along with some gritt and glory about working with your hands. It's my first try at an axe sheath so it's far from perfect, had to improvise abit

Marking the leather, the knife seen below is an old swedish folder made by EKA. Goes everywhere and does everything

Practically finished
The axe is a fiskars x5

Found a stresspoint that I had to streghten by lacing
As you can see, the axe will be carried horizontally. This works just fine as the handle is short and light and the belt loop wide enough

I'm satisfied with the outcome. Got the kind of stained, lightbrown unique finish which i was looking for

hey, nice first try. it seems like you already did some reading before. are you planning on doing some more?

I don't know I've been doing knife sheaths for a while now, this was my first try on an axe. I just make sheaths when I need a new one. This time I lost my nailon sheath that came with the axe :'D But there will be other knife sheath projects coming

I agree, not a bad first try.........and I'm exactly the same way - I make my leather goods on a 'needs' basis.

Thank you! It would be nice to make it more than a hobby but...
That's one of my favorite things about leatherwork. I put every dime back into it, but it's more than self sustaining. Once I've built up all of my tool needs I can turn a decent profit. A sewing machine will make an enormous difference once I can fund one.

Nice first work on that one. I've said it before, but I believe most guys start their business because they had a personal need and got hooked. Keep going!

Agreed again LOL. I'd love nothing more than to hit the lottery, quit my job [retire, actually] and do this full time. But given the point it's more likely that I'll get hit by lightening than win the lottery....guess I gotta stay in the trenches....

Nice work!

The most difficult part is coming up with your own design, making the work yours. E.g. I can recognise Dwayne's work with passing glance those days...

If you stick with it anything can happen... ;)

Yep, same here!

I got started that way. Needed a pair of chinks (short leggings) for riding and couldn't find what I was looking for. So I built them. That was 1984 or 5ish.
