Hi guys

Like I said in the title I'm searching for an all around fixed blade. I'm actually more of a folder guy but now I want a fixed bec of the advantages. Philosophy of use is wide ranged. From camping to hiking backpacking, biking, little food prep etc etc No hardcore bushcraft jungle surviving tho.

I think size would be perfect between 19 and 23 cm overall length (~7.5 - 9 inch)

I'm not sure if I'm a fan about some things bec I never had them before but I think I don't like skandi grinds bec I can't sharpen them on my sharpmaker

I'd also prefer a not carbon steel bec of patina and rust Not sure if the advantages should let overlook me this but I'd prefer maybe sth powdered.

Prize is around 150$ bec its about 200€ equal of a knife in Europe.

Would be cool if the knife also looks cool or sth special bec I only want 1 So the typical bushcraft style is OK but not hyped for me

Last thing is the sheeth I think I'd like horizontal carry but I'm not sure So maybe a kydex so i can change direction to which is the best for me ??

I'm eyeballing the Bradford guardian 3 pretty hard but I think it is to small for me and the guardian 4 might be to big

So pls pls help me

Thx guys

Kind regards

Head over to the makers for sale area and find something you like. If you can't find "the one," find a style you like and send the maker an email. I'm sure they'd be happy to make something to your specs.

For $150, the Lionsteel M4 with M390 is a winner. The blade shape and grind will do everything you're looking for. It has a cutting edge longer than the Guardian 3, but is not a large knife. Unless you spring for the 3D handle on the Bradford, the M4 is much nicer IMO. The sheath is beautiful, but would require modification to wear horizontal.

Also at that price range is the Fallkniven F1 or even S1.

Spyderco has the Mule Team 23 still for sale. 20CV for $70. Handles and a sheath are possible close to your budget.

+1 for Lionsteel M4.
I just love that knife ( and the whole package).

buck 117 but youll need a custom sheath.
or buck mesa. a real value. will do as much or more than knives 3 to 4 times its price. i know as ive done them. same sheath problem though.

I'd like to address the horizontal carry option you mentioned. I've made many, many knives and sheaths for that type of carry. Over the years I've found that the upper limit in overall length for horizontal carry for most people is about 7". Get much above that and it seems like it starts getting in the way. Ya catch it on the seatbelt, snag it on the door jamb as ya walk by, all kinds of little annoyances. This opinion is based not only on personal experience but feedback from hundreds of customers. I've personally carried a fixed blade as an edc that way for many years and find a much smaller knife works well for me. As a cattle rancher besides being a knife maker/leather craftsman, my knives get used in practical applications daily. My personal knives run about 5.25" to 5.5" and carry like a dream. I really haven't found the need for the larger knife you've described.
