Well after looking at the custom and handmades on here Im embarased to show this, but here goes. Ive been intrested in knife making for years but Im the only one I know who is. So with no teaching my work is rough at best. I decided (since Im kind of a dork) to make a zombie killer. I liked some of the ones on the zombie tools website with no cash ,nor desire, to pay $400 bucks for a machete i figured why not give it a try. It turned out ok. Next time Ill take a shot at hardening and other things ive never done. This time I tried some acid etching and went for that post apotocliptic look. Any here she is.

Don't be embarassed. Thats much better than some of my first pieces I put up here. Definately want to give hardening and heat treating a try. Do you know what steel you used?

the steel was just some scrap I had around,No clue really.I really just wanted to try some before I dropped cash on expensive material. Thanks though.

It looks like about 18" of steel. 24" of 5160 will cost you about $12. Not much more than mild steel. 5160 will make a great zombie killer. And you can HT it too.

By the way good job.

I know I might get flamed for this next suggestion but, you might want to try leaf springs. I know I know, you will not know what it actually is (possibly 5160, 6150, 1095 etc) and it is a best guess. But if you really want to keep a low budget and don't really care about the finished product, it is much better than mild steel.

Looks like you have a good start there. Use of multiple crafting techniques and design aspects. Nothing wrong with using what you have laying around for steel when starting out, you know what the blade's purpose is.

Keep at it mate =)
