Here's my first completed knife after getting my Beaumont Metalworks KMG grinder. It's only the third knife I've completed although there's a bunch of blades that were started on my Craftsman 2x42 and my attempts with files that have yet to be completed.

This knife is about 6.5" overall and is made of .125 01 tool steel and red linen micarta with 300 series stainless pins. The Micarta slabs are glued on with Gorilla Glue. I did the heat treat in my One Brick Forge with a Mapp Gas torch and a Propane torch combined and quenched in Canola oil. I soaked it at bright orange to non magnetic for 5 minutes and then quenched. I tempered it my kitchen oven at 400 for two hours twice.

The overall finish is gound to 600 grit.

It's still not where I want to be, but I feel like I'm making progress. My wife actually said she can see the improvement and called this one cute :)

looks nice. Are you making another knief right now...I want to see another one!! :D

Very nice!! It looks like a practical little blade.

That looks pretty good to me. I see some Dozier influence, for sure. I knew I hit the "big time" when my wife said anything above and beyond rolling her eyes. When I deposited money into our account I got an eyebrow raise, and on my last Tactical Orange Peeler with an orange G-10 handle, she actually said she liked it.

I agree. My GF is sometimes frustrated by time spent in the back room, or annoyed by sandpaper on the dining room table, or blades lying around. Luckily I am fortunate enough to have a woman who when I bring a finished piece out, will examine it like a hawk and shake her head saying "Can't believe you made this"....then when they sell, she is excited for me. it'd be hard to sustain this hobby without someone who supported you. Too much dirt.

Thanks guys.

Got a couple more I heat treated at teh same time. I just have to grind teh bevels and put handles on em. This is finally starting to be fun. The KMG has really changed things for me.
