I am very pleased to have an order for a scandi bushcraft from our mother country.

It is shocking to me to learn of all the additional expences involved. His tariff will be 21 percent of declared value to go to the Crown (think trade deficit). Since I am not set up to accept credit cards he is having to pay an additional $30 US for a bank draft. In time I can fix the currency exchange costs by being set up to accept cards. The exhorbitant duty is a killer. There is a chance, maybe, I won't have to declare it but will not know until the post man says so or not.

Sounds familiar. I am informed that we are currently in some sort of trade war/p***ing contest against the US such that import duties on knives into the UK are getting increased at 1% per month. How this benefits we the people baffles me utterly.

Dan,

What does PayPal do with the funds, credit them to my card, mail me a check, or what?

Thanks for helping.

EDIT: I just emailed asking him to hold off a little while on purchasing the bank draft.

roger you can use it in debt card form or transfer it to your bank account
I like using the card because you get 1 1/2" % back is soon as you use it
it's all on line so you can see it. I just keep enough in there you play the way I want to.
you can transfer both ways too. you will have to have the premier account for the cash back,
I think that's what you call it? and it's free other than you pay a % of the sale which you'd have to pay any other way any way..I am an in house merchant also but like paypal better I think..
it's just some customers are a little afraid of it, but Paypal is making it a little easier on that end..

or e-mail all card info to me with card number or phone the number in to me if you'd like.

Dan, is there a way to process credit cards through Paypal yourself for orders? I get phone orders sometimes where people want to use their credit card to pay and I'm not big enough to be able to afford a merchant account through one of the credit card processing agencies...is there a way to do this through Paypal that you know of yourself?

:)

Do you remember how much it cost to have them transfer the funds to my bank account? If its a percent or two I'll eat that.

Perhaps I should just call you tomorrow evening (if convenient for you).

RL

0 cost to tranfer either way it just takes a few days.

darren sure you can anyone can, just do the bussiness account (premier account)

Roger,
My power is back and I'm back on the internet :D . I have had great luck with PayPal. It is a very convenient way to pay for items and recieve payments over the computer.

Roger,

That 1075 is still razor sharp, I really want to sharpen it, but I cant  . It just wont dull. ;) Its a great blade Thanks again.

Ron

I posted a few photo's on the wilderness survival forum.

Outstanding Ron. Please email me a link after you get more pressing internet buisiness finished. I know it has been a long dry spell for your family without electricity.

Your version of the bushcraft is beginning to take off. I am very glad I bit the bullet and attempted the grind. I must say, that first one was a nerve tester.

Roger, Paypal is the way to go. It's the only thing I accept for overseas orders. You don't have to worry about some of the common CC hassles that way.

I think PayPal charges 3%. All you need to use it is an email address. They credit sales to your account and issue you a debit card. Watch out though, they charge something like 4% if you take cash from an ATM... I use it for online purchases mostly. I've had a merchant account in the past and I think PayPal is much simpler; no software to lease, no machines to buy. And with a merchant account you still pay up to 2% of every sale.

Roger, congratulations on the overseas order! See, you are getting global recognition now. We know you are good!

dave
it can be more than that with all the other fee's like a min daily batch fee,
and a monthy min, some of them charge more if you use it for online sales.
I like Paypal.. and
if you want money from your Card just plan ahead a little and get cash back
at most anystore that offers it. if the sale is $10.00 you can get cash over and above 10. 20. 30. $40.00 just little ways around things.
most of the time just use the card and get 1 1/2 % cash back credited to your account. I use it paying for gass too,,
you pay what per gal and what do I pay at
1 1/2% back :D

edited to add not saying you Dave just anyone that doesn't use it :)

Why not accept something like an International Money Order? I've sold a good number of items on Ebay and shipped them overseas, and have received quite a few IMO's. I've never had a problem with them. The biggest expense to the sender of the IMO is the mailing cost, which I always recommend sending Certified.
