I found H.I while looking for a Big A$$ Knife to chop stuff with. I did not know at the time that I needed a Chiruwa Ang Khola. I did not know I also needed a AK Bowie, or a Bilton either.

I won't even start on the Talwar or how good a crossed pair of WWIIs would look on the wall over my desk.... I will stop there, I'm just torturing my self with this wish list. (Kirambit, D-1, Chitlangi Bowie, Giant Chatangi Bowie.... Make it stop...Rusty, Monk, Oh Damn their's one with a D guard. If you put a D guard on a Ultimate Fighter....!!!!)

Looks like I will be broke(er) for a wile.

But I found more than just another knife shop didn't I? As much fun as it is to drool over all the 'Blade Art', HI is really the (one) legacy of a man, Uncle Bill, kept alive buy Yangdu. (not to take away from her involvement in the origin of HI)

A social program that not only provides Monetary gain for the Kamis but allows them the pride and/ or self respect of being able to provide for there family's and excel at there craft while keeping the art alive for the next generation.

My words don't convey my greatest respect for this thing that they have done. The fact that HI (Yungda) is held in such high regard as a company and people is testament that my respect is not mis placed.

Because of that my first HI purchase won't be the CAK that I think I need for what I want to do with it or the AK Bowie I really want.

It will be a Uncle Bill Especiale, a gift from Uncle.

A totem only holds the powers you allow. To me this blade is a reminder of Honesty, Integrity, Compassion for others, Humor, Loyalty, Insight, the Courage to take a risk, Respect and a reminder that my life should be about more than just me. (I'm shure threse more) All the impresions I got reading the intro to HI and the Kamis. The few post that I have read by Uncle Bill suport my oppinions.

Still a tool? You bet ya! A weapon? I hope never but don't try me. Paying tribute to false idols? Mayby, but I think we all need a little reminder about what is really important (to self). The fact that it will take a razor edge is just a plus.

(I'm not a religious person but believe you can find guidance, strength and reminders of your true coarse (grounding?) in strange places. I never thought it would come while looking for a Big A$$ Knife.)

Thank you Uncle Bill. Your example in life has touched another.

Yungda, I look forward to being a customer for a long time, some thing I have never said to/about a company before. Thank you for the chance to own such quality cultural art.

If this is a Little to touché-feelie for my first post I apologize. I am very impressed and had to say so (type) out loude. I hope to go back to my normal apathetic, skeptical self soon.

Next time I will talk about chopping something up.

I'am very new here as well, only a couple of weeks. I feel very much the same way!

Someone made mention that maybe HI should employ some more modern aspects into the bladde making for a more consistant product. I would really hate to see that happen. Part of what I really like about these knives is knowing that they are unique.

My first blade was a WWII. It has hammer marks on it, is ground a little off on some of the angles, and is not perfect as compared to many other blades. Ya know what, I love it! It takes an edge you can shave with! (Don't ask how I know) It is a real hand made tool. You can hardly find that anymore. I wish I had the skill to make a knife like this! I don't, but I can appreciate it nontheless.

I was just gonna start a thread about what I will get next.

I've got a WWII 16.5"
BAS
???

Ganga ram?
AK?
18" WWII

Not sure yet, but I will have more of these knives. Glad I stumbled in here.

Fair warning. There are sharks in here. Careful, lest you get bit!:D

Well said, GS- welcome to the forum another newb.

I thought one khuk would do me a couple of months ago, somehow I've now got the better part of a bucketful.

So many khuks, so little time (and even less $$) :D

A warm welcome to you, sir! If you're already in the state of khuk lust that your post indicates (without even a firest purchase), I think you have the new, improved strain of HIKV. This means you're even more doomed than the rest of us. :D

Make yourself at home.

Gun Snob,
You hit some good points.. I feel the same way.

I have a 15" BAS coming in the mail, my first HI, my first khukuri. Can't wait!
Cheers

yeah, this forum and these knives rule. i'm not that big a shark and i spend more time in the cantina than working over my draft e-mail but it's still my favorite forum.

welcome aboard, get started on your draft and perform some time trials of your ctrl+( x > tab > v ) for sharking.

Thanks for the welcomes, seems a good bunch here and lots of knowledge about all things sharp.

Welcome to the new sharks.

Don't think I can type that fast.

Sharks don't have to worrie I already picked out the first two I want (size, weight, Kamis) and will be going to the source for those. Sort of a set kind of thing. I won't be any competition for quite a while.

We are a one income family with a 5 year old daughter and building our own house. I Gunsmith a little on the side, but its a Hobie with out a FFL. (Cant take in customer work)The shop goes up this summer and I hope to set up the forge and pound out a few Tomahawks now and again. So this collection will come slow and I hope steady.

I think you have the new, improved strain of HIKV.

I came looking for quality tools. Unless this form is the best marketing ploy ever, I found the Holy grail. I had a surplus WWII as a kid and learned the strength of the Khuk. All I have seen since then was cheap imports, collector pieces and some western adaptations(?).

HIBV is a totally different sickness. Guess I'm double sick. (The wife doesn't like my guns but has a thing for knifes, I'm hoping to infect her.)

(without even a firest purchase)

I've gone back about a year in the files. I read reports from Solders, Swordsmen, Good ol' Boys (or what ever the PC term is for Red necks), Collectors, Sportsmen and an opinionated Cherokee. I know a little about Steal, some of you are Doctors on the subject. If I cant trust ya'll......

This means you're even more doomed than the rest of us.

No Mama knower how expensive my toys are. As long as I'm selling to buy I get to keep the roof over my head.

Welcome Gun Snob. Hope you stick around and enjoy your self. Sounds like you came to the right place for big knives. :) Sounds like you are off to a good start.

BTW mind stopping over Here and posting your thoughts? ;) Thanks,

Heber
