So I'm brand new here... And as it so happens, I've been looking into Becker as of recently and I really want one! Nothing big really at all, especially as I am not one to live in a wooded area or have any need for something large. I was actually looking at the BK11 or BK14.

Anyways, I'm sure this is the most common question in the entire world, but what's a good entry Becker, keeping in mind the fact that is I bought one of the small ones like the BK11 or Bk14 I would definitely want some nice scales and a clip for the sheath.

I also wanted to know where to get the "best" scales from. I'm cool with the micarta, but I'd prefer something different, wood or something....

Anyways, these are all the questions rattling around in my brain... I'm new to knives and only have like four folders with no fixed blades... but alas I'm a pour college kid.

Hopefully I'm not being too repetitive with my new-guy questions for everyone's tolerance levels.

First off, Welcome aboard.

Secondly The BK-11 and 14 are both really great knives. Lots of guys and gals around here have them and use them.
Depending on what you want the knife for, there are now a HUGE range of choices in the BK&T line up.

Thirdly, Tommy The Who makes great wood scales as do a few other makers.

Give us an idea of what you want to use it for and we can give you a much better idea of some choices to suit your need.

It would be strictly edc in an urban type environment and at work, where I don't do too much cutting besides boxes, but I also work with trucks a decent amount, and sometimes there's some prying/scraping. Nothing heavy, it's just something I don't want to put on a tenacious, or my other daily cheep edc knives.

Welcome man. Bk14 if I had to choose between the two. But the shorts ain't too much longer of a blade and have more handle so if you wouldn't mind something a little bigger I'd recommend the bk16 or 17. As for good scales, in wood I'd go with tommythewho. Kabar has put out zytel scales for the 14 also that are very nice for the $12 price tag and you get 2 sets. Here are my 16 and 17 wearing tommythewho.

THOSE are some sexy blades.

Oops. Missed the whole urban edc thing. Yeh bk14 then. Or even a remora. Cheap easy to sharpen ans very small

I definitely think a bk17 is too big for what I have in mind right now... However, after seeing a couple I really want one anyways... :)

The 11 was my first becker. Still love it and use it more than many of the other ones. So get a 14 if you have bigger hands and want a little longer of a grip, or an 11 if you like the bottle opener. Then get a 15, 16, or 17. because you gotta.

14. the best balance of size, strength, and comfort among the Neckers. IMO anyways. I like the 11, but If I had to choose only one, I would choose the 14 every time. The 14 is also a couple bucks cheaper.

Welcome! If you want a bottle opener, go 11. If you don't, go 14. The 11's handle is too small to get more than 3 fingers on (2 if you're The Warrior). As for wood scales, I'd really recommend you try making your own. It's really not that hard (I've done several sets, and can tell you first hand that if you have a few basic tools, it can be done without too much trouble). If you simply must buy wood scales, I actually like Oregon F'aler's work better than Tommythewho's, personally, but they both do good work.

Welcome aboard. If you want an EDC, I'd say BK14 all the way, it was my first Becker, and is what really made me fall in love with em. You can do some interesting cord wraps with them, or spend 12 bucks to get a black AND an orange set of scales. The wood scale makers mentioned all do great work, and then you'll have to look into some sheath options from some of our many leather and kydex benders.

Here's my 14 with 550 wrapped handle.

Thanks everybody! Opinions from people who actually own the knives is great! I think I'll end up getting the BK14, The remora is ok, but I think I favor the handle shape of the BK14 especially since I have larger hands... I'll definitely look into custom handles, but first I need some extra pennies.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes as well!!

BK-14! Pretty cheap and makes a very nice knife with some mods. Also as for unique scales, I dont think these are your average pair of filed down izula scales :D.

The BK-2 is also a staple in any Beckerheads's collection but theres no point showing you mine... Its not much of a 2 anymore.

Welcome!!!

I'd do the 14. And if you can get some scales from BFC member Sh@rp, go for it.

Guyon, thankyou for reminding me that I still need to get a pair of those scales. I love Sh@rp's stuff.
