First post, first knives! A little wood, a little carbon fiber, what do you think?

Hi all, I guess this is a bit of an introduction along with a "look at this". I do paint and body work for a living, always liked knives and firearms... I've done a fair amount of customization to my own guns along with some close friends. Nothing crazy, trigger jobs in 1911's to frame reductions and stippling on glocks.

I've noticed a trend in a lot of the "custom" knife makers with small cleaver-like utility knives made from odd materials? so I took that idea and ran with it. I thought starting small may let me get some principals down along with trying some techniques. Anyway, what do you guys think? I feel like the "mill scale" and bluing can add character but I'm uncertain how to do it without it being overpowering. I've always been a fan of a classic/patina/well used looking item. It would obviously be out of place in a more functional Bowie, but I thought the oddities worked with these... They're more of a novelty anyway!

My "first" was actually a kukri, followed by a much smaller one that I love the handle shape on. even making just a few my overall fit/finish has definitely improved and I've learned a lot.

Good point! I'll take some "action shots" they're basically glorified box cutters so they're rather small. The cutout fits two fingers. I honestly thought the design was dumb until I made them and used them. They're very comfortable for menial tasks

Those are cool, and turned out a bit better than my first two knives! Since you do paint and body you probably have a steady hand and an eye for detail, both of which I'm still working on. What did you grind the bevels with? Files? 1x30? 2x72? I ask because your plunge lines look great, something that I'm struggling with.

pretty darn cute!

This I'm sure will make the more knowledgeable/skilled guys on here cringe but I cut them with a 2" 80g grinding disc on a hand grinder and then cleaned them up with a file . Thank you though! Still need to take a few more pictures for size reference. Would also like to stitch up a sheath tonight if time permits

how you make them is less important than that you make them
