Hello all, just found this forum!

I started forging five months back since inheriting my Great grandfathers anvil, lots of ups and downs but here's my latest.

1.2519 11.5 inch gyuto.

Handle is bamboo I brought back from a trip to Taiwan

I taught myself Mokume Gane from quarters so that I could make the end cap and bolsters a bit more interesting.

Lots of mistakes, but with the help of the internet and a lot of books I'm slowly improving.

Cheers

VERY nice work! I like the bamboo handle and your blade is spot-on. What's the steel?

Many thanks for the kind words. The steel is 1.2519 which I believe is similar to Hitachi blue. I first started with file steel but when I switched to this stuff the difference was night and day, it keeps a wonderful edge.

Very impressive. Good steel choice, too.

Fill out your profile so we know some things about you. Age, location, occupation, etc. all help us with answering questions as well as give us some sense of who you are.

Stacy beat me to it.... NICE steel choice. 1.2519 and 1.2442 are excellent steels. And a GREAT looking knife on top of that!
