This is my first post in the Swamp Rat forum here on Blade Forums. I've posted a few time on the Rat Chat under the user name "El Toro". Don't ask about my current screen name, I came up with it before discovering what Swamp Rat was all about!:grumpy: (By the way can I change my screen name here without creating a new account?)
I purchased a few swamp rats over the last moth or so. The first was an M6, my second was an INFIcoot. I just ordered a BADASS sheath from Armoralleather for the Coot which should be here in a few months. In the mean time thought I'd have a go at making a similar horizontal carry style sheath to hold me over.
It's not quite finished yet, I still need to add a keeper strap for the handle and a belt loop on the back. Instead of using leather for these parts, I'm going to use some Coyote Brown cordura. I didn't use any dye on the leather, instead I opted for a straight Bee's wax finish. The finish is a bit darker than how it appears in the picture. It's been a case of trial and error using Bee's wax. With the first sheath I made for the M6, I dunked the entire thing, soaking the inside as well. It dried to be hard as a rock! With the INFIcoot sheath I was careful not to get any on the inside. While it is still pretty hard, its not quite bullet proof like the M6 sheath I made.
Here's a couple pics, let me know what you guys think.
