This is my first official post here and I've been reading a lot in this forum for quite some time now. I've had a strong interest in traditional knives here the past few years. I have a lot of Victorinox SAKs and a decent collection of "tactical" Emerson and Benchmade folders that I got in exchange for some web design work years ago for a law enforcement supply dealer. I'm almost to the point of selling most of those off and put some of the funds towards traditionals now! Its funny now your tastes and preferences change over time.

Finally found a traditional EDC after waiting for the right thing to come along over in the Knife Exchange. Came across this #56 pattern, a Dog Leg Jack in Spring Green Jigged Bone. The scales look very dark with just highlights of green near the bolster and bare end. A nice contrast in my opinion. I definitely wouldn't it to be any greener than it is. I love long pulls...don't know why, I just think it gives the blade character. The etching on the main blade is very light...it may have been lightened by polishing but that's why I chose it because the seller gave a good pic of the main blade. I don't really like the etching on the blades that much but if they are small/subdued, they don't look too bad.

I have a 2012 and 2013 BladeForums knife and one of the 2014 models ordered but have never carried those. This is definitely a user...been in the left front pocket since it came in the mail last week.. I'd like to pick up a variation of the #15 Boy's Knife at some point also.

Looking forward to this forum.

John

Welcome the the Traditional side! VERY NICE #56!! That's a really cool barehead, I love it. Excellent choice for a First traditional. I also love long-pulls, very classy to me. Nail nicks don't bother me, but I def prefer long pull if I have a choice.

Great pics too :)

Here are two of my 15's... One of GEC's greatest patterns if I may say so

Glad to see you're enjoying it! I couldn't bring myself to use that one, so I decided to let it go. It makes me happy to see it is so deservedly appreciated!

Welcome! Looks like you picked an excellent first traditional pattern, and the spring green bone looks terrific.

Thanks for saying Hello, and welcome to The Porch John. Nice Jack you have there

Welcome and nice knife BTW. I can definitely relate. I used to be all about non traditional/tactical style knives. While they still do have their place in my collection, I really love traditional knives. I typically find myself admiring my traditionals throughout and day. I always pull them out to just mess with them and admire them even if I am not using them.

GEC knives are great but keep in mind there are other manufacturers that you should look at as well. I have a few Case knives as well and love my Case Peanut which has a cult following.

May want to set up an accountability partner soon to keep an eye on your wallet. Kidding aside, welcome to best traditional forum out there and great choice on the 56.

Great pickup!

Start saving your pennies, because you're going to be bleeding money for GECs from here on out...

Thanks for all the welcomes. My next traditional will be the 2014 Forum Knife later this year unless I sell something first. It wouldn't take much persuasion to sell a few Emerson's and Benchmade's off...just have to see another GEC that really strikes my interest.

Ha! Just look around this site for 5 minutes or so, and you'll probably see something "that really strikes your interest!" I know I do. I almost late-night-low-willpower ordered another knife last night. The Frau has enforced a new knife ban, so I really would have been in it.

Can't wait to see how your tastes evolve as you encounter more traditionals.
