First Post & knife recommendation

Check out Google or your same resource and buy a Spyderco Tenacious for similar money. You'll be much happier I'm certain! :) Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the Forum. If you like the tacticool look of the M16 you'd be far better off getting the LE or Titanium versions.

Performance is more important than looks - IMO there are far better knives - they may cost a bit more but you'll appreciate the difference - have a look at the Benchmade Griptilian or Spyderco Delica and Endura.

Check out Kershaw's less expensive offerings.

Kershaw Chill , Blitz , Skyline , Zing , etc... :)

Welcome to Bladeforums!

With thousand of knives and knife knuts running around buying them, there is something for everyone. Every budget, every level of quality, every special purpose.

Do you have any particular use in mind, and how much would you be willing to spend? We can recommend very good knives for really decent prices. But naturally, when a question like this comes up, many people just recommend their own favorite without telling you much about it.

Check out Spyderco and their budget line Byrd and Kershaw and Benchmade and Buck and Boker's CLB line
.
Don't worry too much about the steel -- all of these companies are reliable enough to give you a decent steel which is properly heat treated. You may want to set aside money for sharpening equipment, but that's a question of its own (for our Maintenance forum).

Don't buy the CRKT, it's not a very good knife IMO. Especially for that price.

Look at the Spyderco Tenacious or Spyderco Persistence. Both can be had for around $30 USD. They are probably the best value for your money IMHO.

Obviously the Spyderco Tenacious or Persistence but also look at the Benchmade Vex and Buck Vantage. Good luck and welcome aboard.

What this man said is the truth!

I was looking for a edc knife and came across this one - http://www.amazon.com/Columbia-River-Knife-Tool-M16-01KZ/dp/B001C63SP0
I had never heard of that company before, anyone have a good or bad opinion of this knife?

Welcome, the best thing to do is post your price range. Also what you will be using the knife for, your likes/dislikes about folding knives such as.....

I'm working with $50, I like assisted or flipper knives and I'll be using it for mostly cardboard, paper, opening boxes ETC.

I would pass on the CRKT and get a griptillian from benchmade.

Byrd Meadowlark, Spyderco Tenacious or Persistance. If you want to spend a little bit more: Spyderco Delica (or an Endura if you want a bigger blade).

I'm with Esav and Rev... if we know more about your intended uses we can be more specific in our recommendations. Generally though, if you find something from Spyderco, Benchmade, or Kershaw, you're gonna be fine.

And Esav is right about getting an entry-level sharpening kit, whether it's freehand or a system. It'll get old and expensive trying to send your knife in whenever it needs sharpening.

mini grip is about $60 in new form, thats twice his budget. though i think the mini grip is a great knife.

for similar budget i would recommend one of the kershaws...i don't own a buck, but from what everyone says, that should be a good option as well...

there are a bunch of online shops that have close outs and sales on stuff that you could check out. some places i would recommend, knifeworks.com, 888knivesrus.com, agrussell.com, knifecenter.com, bladehq.com, and knifesupply.com

I would browse those places. You will determine which is the cheapest by brand, but all of those companies have been decent for me in terms of customer service (well one is a bit less than the others, but their prices are good). You can learn a lot just by reading those sites. Sites like AG Russell have a lot of info.
