Hello everybody, I was hoping you could help me out. I have been a Knife nut & user scince I was a little kid, and it's just gotten worse with age,(32). I really don't care much about the looks of a knife, I'm more interested in preformance and usability. I am looking for a tough folder, specifically a left hand point up with a strong clip, liner or axis lock, with a wave style feature. Steel handle would be fine, weight is not an issue, blade no less than 5". Tanto style with a slight recurve would be nice, but no serrations. A wide blade is prefered. I can't seem to find this combo, HELP!

Well, I can see your problem. Honestly, there isn't a production blade that meets that description. You are looking for a custom. I'd suggest giving Rick Hinderer a call and asking about a lefty XL Firetac, with a flipper. Other than that- and MAYBE a larger Devastator (if RJ does one)- I don't know what to tell you.

The Axis lock knives by BenchMade are super left handers and some like the 420 Resistor or the HK 34/14200 or HK 14210 can easily be Waved but the blade lengths fall short of what you are hoping to find. I've done several Waves on these and many Spydercos and carry an HK34 that I Waved myself. Any of these work great and they are tough strong reliable knives with one of the best locks ever invented. Oh I put black Micarta scales on my HK and bead blasted all the screw heads and pocket clip so this pic shows it in different clothes than factory.

That blade length requirement and left handed makes choice a difficulty.

Have you considered a custom DDR?

I like all the other suggestions as wel, though the tip-down + wave-like feature are problematic thus the Hinderer suggestion.

The CRKT M-16 Special forces edtions have a handgaurd that when the pocket clip is reversed to tip down it works just like a wave feature. You can get this knife w/ tonto blade or the M-21 special forces has a spear point blade. They have Aluminum handles with the left or right tip or down option, the only bad part for you is that I think thier only avail. in Part. serr..

Thank you all for the info, this knife idea has been stuck in my head awhile now. BTW you'll have to help me, who's DDR?

Never mind, I know who you meant now! Sorry folks I had a brain fart I meant tip-up!

The Cold Steel Voyager with a 5-inch plain-edged tanto is the closest thing to an off-the-shelf folder that I can think of. I wish they'd make their Gunsite II without serrations, but they don't. Anyway, lock-up is strong and the knife is light weight and it's a tough knife. Blade is AUS 8A. Reviews of other configurations can be found here and here.
