Hey everyone this is my first post. I wanted to share about my experience modifying my new to me Giant Mouse ACE Grand.

I started getting into knives about 6 months ago and when I saw a photo of the ACE Grand, I knew I had to have one. I had read some negative reviews with some purchasers reporting poor lockup and detention lash.

When this one came up on the used market I took a chance but when I got it, it unfortunately had significant detent lash and the blade would hit the backspacer when closed with any force.

As I investigated I noticed the stop pin had a lot of movement allowing the blade to drop into the handle further than it should. When I disassembled the knife, the stop pin measured 3mm in diameter while the locating hole measured slightly bigger.

I looked around and couldn’t find any metric stop pins but found this on McMaster-Carr.

1/8” x 5/16” 316 Stainless Dowel Pin

I was hoping the new pin would press fit in the stock hole but I ended up having to drill out the holes. I used a 1/8” drill bit to oversize the stock holes and the pins fit perfectly with no extra movement.

Final assembly revealed that I had remedied the detent lash and the blade no longer contacted the backspacer, however the liner lock now did not engage the blade anymore. This was expected and after a few minutes with a diamond file, I had it engaging properly.

Super happy with the end result. I could have lived with the detent lash but the blade hitting the backspacer was not acceptable. This fix redeemed this knife for me. This one will be special since I had to perform the work on it and it was successful. Let me know what you think of my work and what you would have done differently!
