Welcome! And great choices for your first Becker's. not much you can't do with that pair!

Get yourself a custom kydex rig for those two from 710custom sheaths or azwelke! :D

Looking forward to more pics of those beauties in the woods!

Great combination, I'm sure you'll love that set! Throw a 17 in there and there's nothing you can't do.

Welcome to the fire. I believe those two to be great first choices, they'll serve you well.

Congratulations! The BK-7 is my favorite of the full size Beckers...

I'll just leave these here....

Tell your bank account I'm sorry....

No worries about the bank account, these were more of a celebratory gift to myself. As i just got my first paycheck, that didnt have any childsupport taken out of it. Don't get me wrong I love my kids and will do anything for them, but my nonworking ex and her drunkard of a hubby won't be living off of my 700.00 a month anymore.

My Micarta and scales I am wanting to do on my own.

with the 7 I want to strip the coating off the blade and blue it.

the 11 I want to strip the coating and duracoat it but leave the blade patina'd.

for those that have stripped the factory coating from the blade what did you use ?

What do you blue with? would the birchwood and Casey stuff work?

Thanks for the info, this will be the start of my 1 billion question's . LOL

Welcome.

Do a little legwork. There are a million photos of mods archived here, as well as discussions on stripping off coatings.

We're nice folks, but we don't spoon-feed! :D

I remember what a joy it was when I got a grand a month raise when my alimony stopped. I sympathize with the non-working ex angle, who miraculously was able to work right after the judge banged the gavel and closed the case.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, and enjoy the Beckers. Beat the hell out of them like they owe you money, and they will laugh back at you.

Welcome. That's a nice set. You did well.

Use Kleen Stripper Paint Remover. You can get it just about anyplace that has a paint or a hardware section.

I suggest leaving the coating on the handle portion and just strip the blade area. It might look a little weird (I personally like the way it looks with no coating whatsoever, but I use mine as much as I can, and removing the scales for maintenance is just a pain in the ass for me), but at least you wont have to keep the handle area oiled. But its up to you.

When you apply the stripper, make sure you are in a well ventilated area and you use gloves and eye protection. Tape off the section you don't want to strip. Really coat the surface with it and (this is the important part) let it set for about 15 minutes (or more) then you can just wipe it off with a napkin or towel. If you only let it set for just a few minutes then you are going to be doing some scraping with a brush. There is no rush let the stuff work. It won't (from my experience) harm the surface of the steel.

That's the best combo you can get. Stripping is easy just let it sit long enough and I would imagine the BC cold blue stuff works just fine. As for a patina, that's another story. There are a ton of different ways to get a patina. I think I did 6 different ones on my 7 before I found one I liked. Now I might change it because the chicken I cut with my 11 the other day left a bright blue patina that looks pretty damn cool. Have fun with it and welcome. Where are you hailing from?

Thats why i got the BK-7 I also am getting into Bushcraft, and wanted something I could use to process firewood i.e. batoning and such. I have a few mora's but they dont like to baton well. So The BK-7 will take the betaing.
