Hi everyone, this is my first post on this form. My son in law gave me my Busse, which I believe is a swamp rat 5 as a gift. I don't collect knives, but I really enjoy this one. He shared this sight with me and then got me into kybex sheath making. I bought all the supplies and made a press. I used it to make the sheath in the pictures with OD green front and a black back. I made him a sheath for his swamp rat 5 as well. He is trying to get me to understand the different models and we now talk about what we see for sale and prices. Thanks for looking and sharing your collective knowledge.

Sorry, must be doing something wrong on the pictures...

I don't know that model, but I guess I guessed right.
Rodent 5?
Nice work on the sheath.

Man that sheath is nice and clean. Well done, and welcome to the forum! Also, congratulations on having someone in the family to talk knives with, that's a pretty cool thing.

Wow... that's awesome! There is just something specail about these knives... you will likely own more soon :) enjoy her my friend...

Wow! Nice work! You've got an attention to detail that's for sure.

I wish my father in law and I had as much in common. It's great to see people connecting over such a fun hobby and brand. Busse family blades are awesome. I have a hard time spending money on others.

Thanks for fixing the pictures for me and thanks for the welcome and kind words. Funny thing is I have the internal debate of should I use it or just admire it and keep it fresh...

Use it. Great thing about great blades is that you can use them and if taken care of they really do not show much wear.

Lot's of folks have nibbled their way into the trough with their first Rat! Enjoy that Rodent 5!

The best advice I can give is..use it, don't hesitate because it's a nice, expensive knife.
The only way to really get a feel for Jerry Busse's legendary heat treat and steel is to put that bad boy to use.. you will love the blade more an more as you gain confidence in just how tough it is.. congrats, what a gift!!

You started off with a WINNER...the Rodent line is full of excellent users and tough as they get...beat her mercilessly...thanks for posting and welcome to a great place! :)

I'd suggest a Rodent Solution as your next foray into Bussekin if you want to go smaller...great ergos on this one just like your knife.

If you want to go larger, the Rodent 9 is very very similar to your knife-- only scaled up.

Also don't forget about SYKCO models...they're great values and everyone needs a little Res-C <ultra-resilient, super comfy handle material> in their lives.

Or go whole hog and jump in the trough with all 4 cloven hooves and root for some INFI!

Make yourself at home and start out looking at some of the picture threads-- it's a great place to get addicted....errr ....STARTED, yeah, I meant a great place to get STARTED. :p

Wow you can tell that was one of my early ones. I guess I will have to make you a new one now that my skills have gotten better. Maybe I'll get some tan kybex for the next one.

Nice. Welcome. Always good to have a family member with excellent tastes in blades. Even better if they gift you nice blades!
