Greetings from the East Coast of Canada!

I've been interested in and collecting knives for several years now. It all started with a few different fixed blades, to a custom Damascus blade and then to a couple of custom railroad spike knives.

Then last summer, I couldn't find my Schrade folder that I've used forever (I bought it at a shop in Boston when Billy Martin coached the A's so that dates me), I'm going from memory here and it think it was a ??7 and I starting looking into different brands to replace it. About 25 different Spyderco's, Benchmade's CRKT's, Kershaws, Mcusta's and Emerson's I've learned to appreciate all the different manufacturers.

Then, after lurking around this forum for a bit I went to a few local antique stores and found some traditional folders. An old Russell barlow that seems to have had the blade replaced with what looks like something made from a file as per the B.L subforum. An I-XL George Wostenholm and a Wayne No350 knife from Japan.

All this being said, I like, I like, I like. I want them all!!!! I'm addicted to collecting everything.

Sorry, I rambled. My intent was to ask advice. I just picked up a Victorinox Swiss Armey knife at a local flea market. It has four blades/tools, tweezers and a toothpick. The blades are very stiff, can't open 2, the scales and blades are scuffed and the liners are oxidized. What would you recommend I do to clean it up a bit? It only cost a couple of dollars but it seems to me that half the fun is in finding something cool, rescuing it and treating it the way it deserves to be treated.

Sounds like a mineral oil bath would take care of most of its problems.

By the way, welcome to the forum :)

Yeah, mineral oil and then toothpicks and a toothbrush to get out all the crud. Nice warm bath, dry it out well, oil the joints again and you should be in good shape.

Thanks for the info!

It's sitting in a mineral oil bath as I type. How long should I keep it there or is the answer as long as necessary.

K.K.
