Hello - Very glad to have just become a member of BF. Thanks folks and Hello.

Been researching fixed blades for awhile and decided on the Dozier K-4 Straight
Hunter in black canvas micarta. This is my first fine fixed blade and am very
excited for it to arrive. Should be here in 2 weeks or so.

Did I make a good choice for my first "real" fixed blade? Will be using it for EDC
around the farm, hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, etc.

How is "linen" micarta different than "canvas" micarta?

Happy Blading!

While not yet an owner of Dozier knives I believe they are a great manufactured piece of work. There are many here that will back that up.

I can't remember what size you have, but if it fits into the 3.5 to 4.5 inch blade range in my opinion(IMO) you have an excellent size for everyday carry(EDC.)

Also, if it is the model I am thinking of it will sale for between $150 to $250 per knife. It is amazing the amount of performance you get when you start collecting in that price range.

The D2 is a real performer.

Someone else more knowledgeable than I will be able to address your scale material question.

welcome to BF! ........... hold onto your wallet!

i have a dozier K2 and it is awesome. mine is linen micarta. i would think that canvas should be a little gripper than linen....although Bob doesn't polish his linen handles....so they are grippier than most others.

when your're ready for a new folder, check out the Spyderco endura 4 or delica 4. great knives also.

Bob is a living legend in the industry, and for good reasons. you have a knife that will last you a lifetime

Like you, I have also recently taken the plunge and bought two Dozier knives, the K2 and the Yukon. The K2 is on its way to me directly from Dozier Knives and the Yukon is coming from AG Russell at the end of the month when an extra sheath has been made for it. I've been eyeing off the Doziers for years now and heard so many good reports that I thought it was time to buy. I also found that Alicia from Dozier Knives provided just the best customer service. I used to love dealing with the late Bill Martino from Himalayan Imports. He was such a gentleman and I never thought I would find anyone else who could provide the individual service that Bill provided. Alicia has done that in my dealings with her.

Thanks guys for all thoughts and such.

bill G - It was hard to decide on the K1/K2/K4...arghhh. Everyone speaks so
highly of all the Doziers and the K2 always comes up in a conversation as
being "one" of the Doziers to own.

Glenn Jones - Your sickness has rubbed off a bit already, I talked with Alicia
this morning and a green canvas micarta K1 is left Dozier's shop today heading
my way!!! It will actually arrive 10 days or so before the K4. Alicia was very
helpful, professional, and just plain friendly.

Better hold onto my wallet or else............

You've made a great choice. I have a couple of Doziers (planning on more) and they are among my favorites. The difference between linen and canvas micarta is the canvas is grippier. Both are very tough.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Buzzbait will come along and show a few pics of "Doris".

Aint nothing like Dozier sharp.
And no one has mentioned that the sheaths are inspired.
If it is the horizontal sheath...
Lift the knife up while pushing down on the belt loop with your thumb.
With a little practice you can almost 'shoot' the sheath off the knife.

Good news, bad news...
Good news, you will be happy.
Bad news, you won't be able to stop at one.
I'm up to 4 and I'm sure Nakano and Dan will turn on the magnet when I walk by the Dozier table in November.
:D

You'll love it. Dozier really understands his blades, and yes, he can *really* send them out sharp... I love my Doziers! That K2 is one of best designed smallish - mediumish fixed blades that I've ever run across.

I think in threads like these there's one guy who gets overlooked: Dan Crotts. The guy does a lot of work on those knives we revere as "Doziers" and he has to be a top notch craftsman. Let's hear it for Dan too!

Thanks folks for the warm welcome. Can tell you I'll be spending lots of
time around here!

K1 general utility with green micarta is being delivered tomorrow.....arghhh
it's going to be a long night.
