Hi guys, great forum!

I'm after a new knife, it has to be sub US$200, 3-5 to 4", folding drop point. I've been looking at the SOG Vulcan as it looks a bit fun, but not sure about the concave portion of the blade or maybe the Kershaw Blur, can anyone recommend something similar to these two, it will be used for dressing deer and an everyday carry.

Currently I use a fixed blade Buck Alpha Hunter with guthook, which I think is a great knife but have gone off it being fixed blade.

Cheers in advance.

I am not a very big sog fan. Kershaw on the other hand is great. I would look at zero tolerance if I was you. The zt350 or zt200 seem to fit in with what you are looking for. I would also check out spyderco, the endura and delica and tenacious are probably the best buys in the knife world at this time.

Check out esee as well, you could pick up an izula and have a pocketable fixed blade.

In my opinion there are to many crevices, nooks, holes and notches in the Vulcan to make it a good Skinning knife. Simply too many places for blood and guts to remain and be difficult to clean. It'd make a good EDC blade, but not great for skinning, in my opinion.

If you must have a folder, I'd stick with an open backed blade like a Spyderco Sage 2, if you can deal with a 3" blade, or a Spyderco Gayle Bradley or Superleaf if you really need something larger. The Superleaf is discontinued and you can find them for <$100. All have nested liners, which may make clean-up a little more difficult, but still easier than the Vulcan

Really though, I'd recommend a fixed blade, like the Spyderco Moran. Clean-up would be snap, and the steel and ergonomics are great.

As you can tell, I'm a Spyderco fan. I own the SOG Bluto, and love it. I got rid of the Vulcan because it was too big for my EDC needs. As for the Blur, I stay away from assisted opening knives.

Let us know what you choose, and good luck with your hunt.

Cheers for that Over Kill, the Spyderco Endura looks OK, I have the rescue 93mm so I know they are nice and light. I wouldn't be interested in the Delica at all because of the serrations.

Will check them out! I think this will have to be trip to town without the wife!

The Spyderco Endura, Resilience or Stretch look to fit what I'm after quite well, also a good EDC as they are nice and light, I can't seem to set one apart from the other.
