Hey axe users and collectors,
I'm a new forum member and avid forum reader. I've always liked things with blades, and own a number of knives, axes, hatchets and tomahawks. Lately, I have focused on buying and using vintage American axes and hatchets. Here is my newly hafted Plumb 3_2 user with forced patina from black tea soak on a 32 inch House Handles curved hickory haft with raw linseed oil treatment. Got it out for some splitting-red oak and bucking-hickory, and man does this thing perform compared to a CT boys axe and Husky forest axe. It's got a great feel and powers through with good size chips! My next project is what I think is an early Kelly jersey (Perfect?) with a 6_0 mark under the poll and bevels. It should weigh about 5 pounds once I get the old haft out. Can anyone help on the Kelly ID? Also, you can see some contained rust spots covered by patina. I'm wondering how to keep these from doing any damage without affecting the nice patina. So far, I've just used a green scrub pad and get a little red powdery rust off. A brass cup brush wS taking off too much patina for me. I'm thinking about just leaving it alone, sharpening, hanging it on a 36 inch handle and use it which should clean it up some. Thanks SwedeFP
