I just ordered the 470-1 and it is a first run. I don't even know if I want to use the knife.
Why? Are you concerned about it losing value? If you a don't be, the laser etching on it has no bearing on the value (at least from what I've experienced and read).
So the numbers do not add value?
Usually not, unless its an LE, but that's only because they are limited in number, not because they are numbered.
I am disappoint. I don't want to sell them, but I always thought the numbered blades added value to my collection.
So the numbers do not add value?
No, not really. Marked limited runs of say 1 of 250 with different steels/different handle colors are the ones that would tend to hold/increase in value.
They usually mark the first 1,000 knives first production so it has little to no bearing on value.
However, If someone is looking for their favorite number or whatever you might be able to get a few bucks more for a first production knife in that case.
Thanks. Now that im starting to collect Benchmades this is good to know.
I would offer this; While a First Production isn't worth any more than a regular one, esp. in runs of 1000, the knife Is a Benchmade and they DO hold their value. We're not trying to scare newbies off by the suggestion that their knife is worth any less - we're saying buy the knife that gets you going the most...and If you really like the thing, wait until the un-marked regular production models surface and get another. Once again it's the 'Proof of Concept' and Prototype versions that are the most valuable in their scarcity IF they're not used and in their original boxes along with the paperwork.
I have done my research and think that this good of a knife company in the USA is worth the extra money.
