first production run...

I have two first production run 42's, but I want to cary and use them, should I just get regular 42's? Just how important is the first production status...?
Right now my personal cary knife is a Smith and Wesson first production SWAT knife, which I've basically destroyed, as far as collectors value. I use it every day, and it has many scratches, but locks tight, and has served me for every job I've put it to.
I love bali's, but don't know if I should "destroy" a collectors item.
Should I trade them for regular 42's?
how much more are they worth?
Thank's for all replies...

Before I tell you to beat them to death, what numbers are they?
If you use them they will lose any value as collector pieces. If you don't care about collecting, then make an offer in the for sale forum. Someone might want one of your numbers.

The more you beat yours up, the more mine are worth.

Doubt is an uncomfortable condition,
but certainty is a ridiculous one.

If it were me, I would probably not touch 31 and either use or trade 70. It's my thought that they are not worth much more than any production 42 right now. But if you are willing to wait a while, they might go up in value.

blade_420 ...... you might want to check this thread out before disposing of your numbered BM42s.

No matter how high or low the number might be listen to what Chuck said to forum member Sansei about his numbered BM42s.

"There never will be another 119 or 170. I gotta tell you that from a pure financial standpoint, those will be valuable knives if kept NIB."

If you just want a balisong you can twirl and flip then trade or sell them to someone who collects numbered knives.

My collection

Well, it's done...

I sharpened the swedge on the #70, and plan on "customizing" the finish on the handles, so I may have F**ked the collector's value, but I have my personal combat bali. I'll leave the #31 as mint as I got it (must...refrain....from....playing....with....toys.....)

Thank's for all your input.

The price on the other 499 just went up!
