Well I wanted to make a lanyard for my spike and rigger first, but I got to thinking and decided to do a cord wrap handle on my DFK Tanto! The spike excelled at its job, proving to be the perfect size and a very comfortable shape in hand. Drawing up the wraps tighter with the spike was easy and smooth.

I also made sure that all my DFK's got used for this! Check it out...

I don't know if this wrap style has a name, or is even used very often. It is one continuous piece of 550 cord, fed through the thong hole and doubled up towards the tip, then each working end is zig-zaged back and forth over the spine and looped under the standing runs along the tang. Fill the tang with wraps and then draw tight evenly in successive steps to keep the loops centered in the tang.

It fills the hand nicely, is very secure and I will likely epoxy soak it for permanance. I also made sure to use all my DFK's in this little project, only seemed right!

Dude, that is an outstanding job! I've tried to do cord wraps on my un-scaled blades, but they don't look nearly as good as that.

Haha, sure!

Get me your info and I'll send the wrap to you! :p

Thanx guys! I've been thinking that a 5 strand button knot on the end of the spike would be cool, I'll just have to use a different spike to draw it up.

lmao...

Sounds very cool on the spike wrap too!

I have friends who sailed around the world in a tiny boat and lived in it for 20 years doing so... they had the whole boat wrapped in all sorts of cool patterns and celtic knots. It was all inexpensive white cord and looked really cool. Fun stuff! I hope to get better at knotwork myself but have a ways to go.

Its all because of the spike! Getting it very tight and even.

Nothing better to do when off shore! I learned a bunch of it while aboard the T.S. Californian as Bosun's mate and watch captain.

The Ashley Book of Knots is the go-to reference for all things to be tied up!
