I'm looking for a good fixed blade knife for camping, survival and for hard use. I camp a good bit and need a quality knife. Money wise I would like to spend no more than $125. So i'm looking at a few knifes, I am a huge SOG fan and brand loyal but am willing to get something better. For my uses i'm worried that the SOG may not hold up. I'm looking at the Becker BK2, ESSE 4, SOG NW Ranger and SOG Seal Pup Elite Drop Point. I feel that the BK2 and ESSE are better than the SOG's but like I said i'm loyal to them. What knive would you buy given these choices and uses? Thanks.

ka-bar USMC's are pretty tough, and cheap

I think the Beckers and the ESEEs are both up to alot, and both get a lot of love here.

you may want to look at the video of one being batonned into another

Right now I am debating on a Fallkniven F1(or maybe H1) or a Koster Bushcraft. They push your price point but are definitely worth consideration.

The SOGs are made of AUS6 and AUS8. The 1095 of the Becker and ESSE is going to be MUCH better.

either the ESEE or the becker.

here is another thing to consider, for the price of the ESEE you can get the becker plus another knife and possibly still have a few dollar left over.

I saw that video. I kind of figured I would be better off with the BK2 or ESSE. The BK2 is half the price in my area so I feel like I may go with that. I love the micarta handles on the ESSE and can get them for the BK2 but it would be similar in price then.

My vote to the BK2. Why? Cause you can get two for the price of one Esee, AND you get about the same performance. Get yourself the Micarta handles for them, though.

I've never used SOG but I have used the ESEE 4 a ton. Overall, it's a great knife made by an outstanding company (lifetime warranty) with a hardcore following of customers and supporters.

I did find the 4 had some flaws that I didn't like. Handle was a little small for me and the choil was too small for comfortable use. The 4 would be perfect for me if the choil was replaced with a little extra handle length.

I got rid of mine after a year and plan on buying the larger ESEE 6 one of these days because I was impressed with how tough the 4 was.

The BK2 also has a great reputation and for the $50-$60 price point, it's hard to beat. I haven't used one so I can't speak from experience on its performance. If you like the BK2 design, I suggest checking out the ESEE 5.

You have a lot of options around your $125 price point. You'll probably be happy with any Becker or ESEE product. Good luck in your search and let us know what you get... with pics of course!

Get both and sell or trade the one you like the least. I've had SOG's before and they are ok, I guess, But I was getting Dealer major pricing from them and was still paying more than a BK 2 costs at retail. I've gifted or sold all of my SOG's except for a neck knife.

Esee 6 , good feel in hand, well balanced ,finger choil area to choke up on , and i think life time warranty, and proven carbon steel. Well worth a look . unsure of prices in US as I am from England HAPPY HUNTING FARON

The BK2 and Esee 5 are nearly identical except for the handles. I happen to like the factory handles on the Becker better and I believe a lot of guys change the handle scales mostly for looks. Are the becker micarta handles worth 2/3 the cost of the knife, heck no!

Both are good but the price of the Becker makes it great! $57.36 amazon free shipping. Esee 5 is $147 plus shipping. You can almost buy 3 BK2's!

Good call. BK2 all the way. Maybe throw in a nice BK11 (as seen below) or a BK14 as well. The price is certainly right.

out of your choices, having not used any myself, i'd probably go with the esee-4, but that's b/c i own and use an esee-6 and it's been great. my only hesitation with the 4 was the handle lenght and choil size, as previously mentioned, but it gets a ton of support from it's users. after the esee-4 i'd go with the BK-2, bc that was a knife i did a lot of research on myself and it also has great support.
