Well, I'm taking advantage of the 4 year wait and the deposit system. I'm gonna drop down $20 and save $10+ a month and hopefully by the time I'm a junior in college, I'll have paid off the Randall in time for delivery. So should it be a Randall 1 or 14? I'm having trouble deciding whether to get Micarta or Leather. (I like the buttcap)

Looking to buy a Randall 1 or similar and a stag handled skinner for the shelf. I like their "leftover" section on their site.

I only own one Randall and its a Model 1. I am selling off most of my knives simply because I'm no longer interested in collecting and now only keep knives that I will actually use. The Randall was the first one I put aside to keep and eventually, it will go to my son and can only hope that one day he will pass it on as well. No matter what you decide to go with though, I have no doubt you will be happy. The quality of the construction and simplicity of the designs make them the classics that they are, and boy are they built to last.

My one and only Randall is a "Camp & Trail" Model 5 ordered in 1976, with black Micarta handle option, stainless steel blade option, and name etching. It listed for $65.00 then. The Micarta handle was $12.00, stainless steel blade $10.00, name etching $4.00. Stag would have been nicer to look at, but Micarta is foreever! But then, all I ever plan to do with it is look at it. Never been out of the house and the only thing to ever touch it is an an oily rag.

I finally decided on a model 14 with border patrol grip and model 1 guard. I chose the O1 steel to see what all the hype is about, and also because the only other carbon steel knives I have are a Schrade Old Timer and a CS Master Hunter, both of which hold a keen edge a long time. I'm having trouble with the wait for my ATC Rangers tomahawk. I can only imagine what 4 years waiting for a RMK will do to me! :barf:

I bought my first (of two) Randalls back in the fall of 1961. It is a 5" Hunter's Bowie and it has always come through for me when I have wanted it. it was a great hunting knife when I still hunted, it was a great kitchen knife when I first got married, and it is a great camping knife yet. And it cost all of $25.00 back then. My parents were quite upset that I would spend that much money on a knife. ;)
