Got my first Rat in a trade on bladeforums. It's an HCLE 4.0. I'll take a few glamor shots of it later or tomorrow if I can to show you it's full glory. I'm really impressed and happy with the knife. I'm a little curious about something though. The trader said the knife was new (Unused and mint from Swamp Rat) and he disclosed that it had this stain on the tip that was not rust. I checked it out - and I agree I don't think it is rust. But I'm not sure what it is.

There's an image of it. We also noticed that it had a very minimal burr from that photo. He stropped that burr off before shipping it to me but the stain is still there. It's honestly hard to see. It doesn't bother me about the knife, it's just in my curious nature to learn more about the hobby. How did that stain show up? What is it from and what is it?

That same side of the knife also seems to have very very light black speckling that the other side does note running through the grain of the knife. It's 154cm.

Ha. The ergos on this thing is great and I really like the weight and balance of it. I'm a new convert...

Looks like either a little leather stain, or maybe just a very early start of some decarb. You can take a small cloth and some lemon juice or while distilled vinegar and rub it out, or if that doesn't work...some careful rubbing with some fine sand paper. Either way, make sure to oil it down afterwards. Congrats on your first, and welcome to the Swamp

I have a HCLE #999 and i love it! I was going to make it my EDC but the MBC will be my EDC when it gets here. Not for sure about the stain. Mine is stain free.

Hahaha! Thanks Swimmerdude! I've been using this thing and I love it. Everyone is right on the money about Swamp Rat. Also thanks to Snowboarder202 I got some 800 grit sandpaper (the highest I could find) and took that stain right off. The blade is now 100% pristine and ready for me to use and scar up with character.

How many HCLE's were made? I have #999 that is from Eric's collection and i was hoping only 1000 were made. Always heard the first few numbers and the last few numbers are the most sought after in anything numbered. I love it no matter what number it is but IMO it is a cool number!

my favorite number I ever had on a jersey was 00. I've never seen a 4 digit number on a Busse/kin before, so it looks like you have the highest number cornered.

That is Great, news! I figured it was a good one! I got a good deal on it too! The famous Eric the "Bully" use to own it i believe.
