Well I just got my Cold Steel Vaquero Grande today and BOY IS IT LARGE! I love it! There was some kinda weird resin on the blade though, I washed it with water and dried it off with a towel and it seems to be fine now.

Since this is my first "real" knife I need some tips on how to keep it sharp, clean, and working fine. I also need to know if there could be something wrong with it...blade seems fine to me.

I ordered it from New Graham Knives and it came with a magnet that has their logo and inside are bandaids! I LOL'ed at that...and yes..I've used one already after I stupidly tested the blade sharpness on my thumb. Thanks NGK!

So...What do I need to purchase as far as cleaning and care goes? I know I need a "Lanksy Dog Bone sharpener" for the CS serrations, and Im guessing I should get a spydie sharpmaker too...

What kinds of things should I put on the blade to keep it nice and polished?

Thanks guys, I've officialy stepped over into the knife nut world!

I keep a tube of Flitz handy to clean/polish my blade and I use Tuff-Glide on the pivots (though I'm going to pick up a bottle of Militec-1 soon). I have a Tuff-Cloth that I haven't used yet (still in the package), but may come in handy one day.

If you get the Sharpmaker I doubt you would need the Lansky. I believe the corners of the sharpmakers stones would work for Cold Steel serrations.

Fireshaker, I've had a VG for years, and used it a lot in the woods. The Sharpmaker will not sharpen the tiny CS serrations. In fact, you probably don't need to sharpen them one at a time, anyway. What I do is steel them. Run a steel across the flat side of the blade and it should straighten up any damaged serrations just fine.

I understand that Lansky fits the CS serrations, so go ahead and check it out, and let us know how it works.

Will do. They lansky bone is pretty cheap. 5.00? I think. I'll get one and see if its any good. :)

Yup...The Lansky "bone" is THE sharpener for the Vaquero Grande, and all other Cold Steel serrated blades.

I just sharpen my serrations on the back like video says. Works great for my voyager. I do need to take it to grinder sometimeand fix big gouge outta tip
