I had a tenacious before which I traded, And last week, a paramilitary 2, which I traded the same day I received it for this Sage2. The pm2, although very nice, was larger than I was expecting. The Sage is the perfect size and weight. The materials used give it a very classy feel, it would be great for dress slacks.

This is my first titanium frame-lock, and I am curious as to what lube/oil is recommended for the lock? The detent ball squeaks against the s30v during open/close. I don't want to put premature wear on the titanium from the steel doing a number on it, so if you have any tips, let me know!

The Sage 2 Was My First Ti Frame Lock As Well. It's A Beautiful And Wonderful Knife. One Of The Best I Own.
I Then Got The Chokwe And I Love It As Well.
The Para2 Is An Excellent Knife. I Had One And Absolutely Loved It. But It Was Then Booted Out Of The Pocket As I Got A Few More Knives.
It's Now Been Traded Along With My Manix 2(Didn't Really Want To Let It Go But Believe It Was Worth It) For A ZT 0301 Which Is Also A Ti Frame Lock. I Have Become Addicted To Ti Frame Locks Lol.

Anyways.. I Would Imagine That Tuff-Glide Or Something Similar Would Work For The Ti Frame Lock. I Don't Have The Squeak On Either Of My Ti Frame Locks.

Nice knife and nice pics!

Don't lube the lock. You'll attract dirt and grit. Well, some people put graphite to relieve lock bar sticking, but don't put any wet lube. Lubing the detent ball is fine. Just use whatever lube you like; anything will work.

It really is a wonderful knife!

The PM2 was great too, I only traded it because I wasn't planning on buying two knives at this time, and needed something classy. I do plan on buying another one once I get more knife funds.

Speaking of ZT, I think my next ti-framelock is going to be the 0551. I love everything about that knife!

I'll have to check out tuff-glide, I have been using the Rem-oil I use on my firearms, but I kinda want something thicker, like grease. The squeak on my sage could just be from being brand new and needing some breaking in.

Thanks! Pics taken on my iPhone.

I was talking mostly about the ball detent, but that is good to know. It's just while opening that it seems like the ball is rubbing with resistance against the blade steel.

I don't have a sticky lock, but just to clarify, when you say graphite, do you mean rubbing a pencil on the lock face?

You can buy graphite lube at most home improvement stores. Usually near the power tools. It's superfine powder, and doesn't attract dirt or turn sticky.

Thanks!

Congrats on your first. Does a Sage 1 count lol? If not then I gotta save up
Ofcourse a sage1 counts! I only meant it is not an entry level spyderco (I.e. tenacious) by my title :)

But it is dirty stuff itself and gets everywhere so be careful in using it. Put that stuff on your knife and you won't be clipping it to your good pants.

Back to the original topic- the Sage looks like a good design, maybe a bit tall compared to its length. Is it in current production or will it be back in production at any time? They seem to be hard to find and in high demand just like the Para 2's. (Maybe all Spyderco production is hard to find right now.) Also have there been any sprint runs or exclusives of the Sage?

MilTec-1 is a dry impregnated lubrication that the armed forces use on firearms. I use it on my knives. Not sure if it is recommended for titanium you would have to read up on it but it did a nice job for me. I also use a marine tuff-cloth to wipe my blades for corrosion protection in the elements.
