Well, I dunno if I'd call it an actual restoration. I made the scales and cleaned up the blade but I don't have the equipment (or time!) necessary to get a mirror finish on the blade. And even if I did I like having a bit of a patina there to remind me I'm using something older than I am. Anyway, this was a practice run to see if I really want to play around with razor refurbs or if I have enough hobbies already ;)

The brush and strop are going to a friend who wants to get into straight razor shaving (yes, I made some hanging strops too, I'll let him pick what he wants). Brush handle is from deer antler, sealed with BLO and an epoxied base. Knot is a 22mm pure badger from Larry Andro. Tang of straight is stamped "FRIED R. NEEFF SOHNE NEUENHOF SOLINGEN," don't know much else about it... The straight has purpleheart scales and wedge along with stainless pins, finished in heaven knows how many coats of CA, buffed with steel wool, buffed with 5 micron rouge on sewn wheel. Strop is latigo and wood is finished in 10 coats of BLO and a layer of carnauba wax buffed on as well. I really like the fact that this package isn't perfect. I think it looks pretty rustic and like it was made with pretty simple tools (because it was). I had antler, latigo and wood on hand from supplies I use to make knives so I really didn't have to get anything besides the blade. I guess I would call this my minimalist setup... Or maybe I'm just making excuses for not having a proper shop ;) By the way, if your apartment fines you $50 every time the manager has to come talk to you because somebody has complained about you being too loud then peening pins is not something to do at home...

Any comments/critiques/anecdotes/disappointments/humorous exploits are welcome. Sorry for the crappy pics, wife has the camera.
