I've had a Gerber Gator machete for a few years now, and it was an improvement over any other machetes I had used up to that point.
I'm not going to say that it is the best machete out there, but it is far from the worst. And having the saw back has been very useful to me, though I was struck by how quickly the saw dulled. It did not take long for the saw to stop being nearly as effective.
Regarding the main edge, I did not have any rolling issues like the op on the factory edge. But the factory edge wasn't very sharp. I didn't have any rolling problems on the first or second edges I put on the machete.
However, I have been having edge roll just like the op after my recent reprofiling. Whether it was my screw up, or the flimsyness of the gator catching up to me, I am not sure.
I'm not going to complain about a machete that stood up to years of regular use clearing brush at work. Maybe my next machete will convince me that I have been using a crap machete all this time, but I have used the heck out of my gator, and it served me well for a long time.
