Hey yall, just scored a sweet ass blade! Im soooo pumped for my first Hinderer, I cant wait. Inbound is a 2011 gen 2 XM-24. I love the pre-stamped blade. black G-10 scale...might pick up the camo or clear green scales in the future. are the scales easily replaced with the right tool? even for someone whos not extremely knowledgable with taking apart blades?? a new scale will fit the gen 2 no problem?

Im also wondering if anyone has ever needed any type of warranty service from rick? I watched an interview and he talked about how he builds these things so well, he expects to never get it back for warranty purposes. Im just wondering if anyone has ever worked thier XM THAT hard?? also, would they do sort of a "spa treatment" type deal like CRK will do? I mean I dont expect it due to the limited space, time and man power, but Im pretty certain you can send it for sharpening. right??

anyway, total Hinderer noob diving right in head first!! pics will be posted here as soon as it arrives! shipping from the same state, so it should be pronto!

forgot to mention, its the black scale, non flipper spanto blade version, stonewashed blade and back side of handle. Like new, I dont think its been used much at all, if any (altho I will use this puppy for sure!;)) I believe the seller told me it was purchased a few years back from the East Coast Custom Knife Show.

Again guys, total Hinderer noob...but Im pretty sure I got this for a sweet deal. I just watched a youtube video of a fella saying he payed 50 dollars more than I payed for the XM-24...only thing is, this guy had bought a 3 inch slicer grind XM-18! maybe Im alittle too excited, but Im pretty happy with what I paid for it.

well, just wanted to share my exp. with yall. its funny, just over the last year have I hit the over $400 mark on blades (except a MT Halo V) so I got the Sebbie 21, then the Strider SNG (meh, looks sweet as hell but its got lock rock and it can be kinda sticky and alittle loose feeling) and now this f**kin beauty and the beast!

Funny thing is, when I posted up my sebenza on the CRK forums the day I got it, I was blown away by the quality...one of you fine gentlemen told me "great, now pick up a Rick Hinderer ;)" I kind of thought, pshh, yeah right, out of my league...here I am a month or 2 later.

you guys will be seeing alot of me around here, and please bare with all my questions, Im a fast learner!!

thanks guys! I will report back with some pro pics for yall in afew days!

Gen 2's are super cool!!!! Congrats and I'm looking forward to seeing lots of pics!!!!

Need2Know has written some instructions on how to change the scales. Very easy. And there is a Youtube video on it by another guy, but Iliked N2K's instructions.

Here is a tip from me: use Blue painters tape to tape the bottom of the standoffs, so when you unscrew the standoff screws, the bottom parts won't slip out. And if you cut the tape the right width, it will reach over the frame and stick to the base of the stand-offs. That way the stand-offs don't shift around when you remove the screws.

You will see what I mean when you actually get the knife. The tape really makes it easy to do quickly without 3 hands. In fact, you could probably tape the reverse side of the pivot, if you don't have the tool to hold it in place. The main thing is to open the blade before unscrewing the pivot, to take the pressure off.

Only about 12 Gen 1 24s exist, all the rest are Gen 2. Scales are relatively easy to swap, it's the reassembly that can get tricky for the "noobs". You can easily miss the "sweet spot" when reassembling the pivot, but it's not something you cannot easily overcome with a little time and a calm disposition.

Congrats on the score and look forward to photos here or in the photo threads created just for the reason of sharing.

LDB, thanks for the kind words. I try to do more good than harm around here.
