This is my first attempt at re-handling a slippie. I used some walnut burl scraps I got from a buddy on a schrade 330T. what do you guys think? It's alot different fitting wood between two bolsters than it is cutting a scale to shape for a SAK! The blades were rusted up and the bolsters were rough when I got it, so I went ahead and smoothed everything out while I was at it.

Looks real good ! How long did it take you to finish it ? I have
some fixed blades iam going to try put handles on and finish out!
great job.

I really like it. Nice job.
How is the wood attached?
Thanks for showing.

That looks reall cool, MM. I've been trying to get up the courage to do one of those rehandles. I got an older utility pattern that is in great shape except for the scales. I've been threatening to take some scrap horn pieces and redo it.

You have inspired me!

Thanks,
Glenn

Glen,

Horn pieces might be more difficult, and really ought to be stabilised before using since natural materials like that tend to "move".

Don't take this as a "don't do", but as a "heads up" as to what you might need to look out for.

well I cut the scales too short so had to raise the grain 2-3 times and let it dry fully before I could epoxy them on, that took 2 days, then another 2 hours to thin, bevel, sand, file and clean the blades up. Had I cut the scales right the first time I could have had it done in a few hours or less. I'll know next time, I cut them oversize then tried to fit them on the belt sander all the way down to the end ....big mistake, should have quit when I had it close and finished it off with a file. oh well, you live and learn. thanks for the comments, this stuff is fun! Oh and I used 2 part devcon epoxy, eliminated the pins, except for the rocker pin, I cut that and oeened it over and inletted the handle for it.
