After poking around here a lot, I finally broke down and bought my first Schrade. I found a US made 881 still in the tube. On Wednesday it finally arrived (a nice break from a really crappy week). All I can say is "wow". This is a nice knife. I've slowly drifted from tacticool knives to traditional knives, mainly to Canal Street knives. When I learned the fine people there originally made Schrade (learned on these forums) I bought the 881. This is a nice knife, and one I will enjoy for a long time. Thanks for all the info you guys put out there. Yes, my wallet has taken a beating, but I sure have enjoyed it.

Peruna,

Congrats on your first USA made Schrade!. You are one of the Good Guys here!. The # 881 is one of my favorite Schrade pocket knife patterns too and I know that you are going to love it more and more after each use as time marches on.

Best,
Anthony

Welcome to the fold, and also probably back to your roots! Depending on your age, I'd guess your Dad or Granddad probably carried what is now called a traditional knife.

We seem to be getting more and more folks coming over here from the tacticools and showing an interest in the traditionals - so pull up a chair and enjoy yourself!

One word of warning though: Unless you really want to get hooked on the traditionals, do not, I repeat DO NOT, read jackknife's tales that are a sticky at the top of the traditionals page! :D

Schrade is my all time favorite company. Their knives just worked. No way around that. I myself love the 8OT pattern the most but I do own a nice old and very well used 881. Great knife all around. I am glad you are enjoying the 881. Now go find an old 8OT and you will have two of Schrades best knives ever.

Actually, I was looking into an 8OT (and yes, my dad has one he bought as a factory second from Smoky Mountain...still pristine condition but the spring for the spey is lazy).

Anyway, what are the differences between the 881 and the 8OT, aside from the staglon scales?

None as far as I know, just the scales.

Glad you found your way over here. There is a bunch of great guys in this sub forum and at least one great girl ME :D Hope you enjoy your stay.

Peruna, Mr Williams is not just any customizer. he worked for Schrade, doing in house custom work until the unfortunate closure in 2004. Really, at this point in time, he really is "Mr. Schrade".
He lists 3-4 Schrade knives per week (most weeks, not all) on ebay. PM me if you want his ebay name.
I know, more competition for the rest of us, but hey, this forum is to share !
we are 'buds' here.
