So, after pondering buying my first Sebenza for many months, I awoke on Christmas morning to find an email in my inbox. My favorite online knife shop notifying me that my dream knife, a Large Sebenza 21 with carbon fiber inlays, was back in stock.

I bought it on the spot, a last-minute Christmas present to myself. ;)

So after having it a week, I have the fever, and I realize that I NEED a small Sebenza 21 as well. My two top choices currently are micarta inlays, or full carbon fiber scale (yes, I like cf!). Down the road, I'm sure I will try Insingos, plain scales, etc, but for now, these two are my picks.

Any experience or input on these two choices would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't say that I've been a fan of the appearance of inlays but that looks fantastic. I'm thinking about getting my first Sebenza really soon.

I saw them in stock but I couldn't pull the trigger on one. I feel like some of the Sebenzas are too nice to use, and the CF inlay is one of those.
I'm gonna settle with an Insingo Micarta 21 :D

Those CF inlays just look soooooo good.

If I were to get one with inlays, it would be the Blade HQ carbon fiber- great choice.

I have several CRKs and my favorites are the Insingo style, both a large and small. The small Insingo has turned out to be the best EDC in my case for it's size and the Insingo slicer blade shape. The added bonus is that ground, but not sharpened part near the tip on the top of the blade-- it's perfect for lots of things where you want a scraper but not a blade. And, it's small enough that people don't freak out when it gets used for mundane things like slicing an apple at the office. I got bad reactions when doing that with a Sebenza 25.

My next one will be a Damascus version, but I don't know which one yet.

Here's what the small 21 Insigno looks like relative to my medium size hand

Congratulations on the CF Sebenza, the full CF scale makes the Sebenza lighter. I also am a fan of CF, my other favorite is micarta. I've got 2 CRK's with full CF slabs and love them. Both are after market and fit the knives perfect. You'll be impressed when you get the full CF Sebenza.

Ajack, between the carbon fiber and the micarta, which do you prefer, and why? Thanks.

I too haven't been real fond of the inlays but that CF version does look really good. Congrats.

Beauty of a knife! Great choice !

I just missed out on great deal on a slightly used large CF but after more thought and researching I think I'm going with a small insingo inlay or slab CF. Just love carbon fiber but that insingo just looks like such an awesome user blade!

This is my recent acquisition. I pondered VERY hard between the CF inlays, like yours, or this Damascus one. That is a great looking first knife you have there. May you enjoy every CRK with that enthusiasm. I know I do.

Micarta has the edge because I like how it has more grip when my hands sweat, and when it's cold it feels warmer in hand. We really don't have winters down south.

I have both a micarta 21 and full slab carbon fiber 21. They are both larges, but I imagine the same thoughts would apply to a small. I love both, but I like the micarta better. It fills the hand better giving a more secure and comfortable grip, and the carbon fiber is a tad on the slick side comparatively. The micarta 21 also screams "USE ME" more loudly with it's more utilitarian look, while the carbon fiber says "let's drink some fine Scotch". I like Scotch from time to time, but when it comes to knives, I love the ones that are itching to be used.

If I ever get another CRK, the small with cf inlays will be the one......

Just a stunning knife:thumbup:

The full CF scale one is very light - if you like that.
I do have a small with micarta inlay and it doesn't get much pocket time anymore since I got a large.
The plain version often slips into the pocket, as it is so slim.
all the best.

So, just 9 days after receiving my first Sebenza, I now have a small 21 micarta on the way. I blame all of you! Thanks for the input.
