Hi everyone. Just got my first small carbon sebenza. I hope this thing is real. I took it apart to take the lanyard out. The brass washers has holes in them. Just noticed the back of the thumb stud is smooth. I know a lot I see are not. They look just like the lanyard pin. Here are a few pics. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't see anything that would tell me it is fake.

Thanks. The back of the thumb stud being smooth had me worried. Thought it should look like the lanyard pin. I guess I need to quit looking at pics online. Lol

Very nice. And I would say real. When you say "the back of the thumb stud" is smooth, do you mean the part of the thumb stud that you see on the right side of the blade? Your knife has the "single thumb stud" as apposed to the "dual thumb stud". I actually prefer the single thumb stud on a Sebenza. Enjoy!

Yes the right side is smooth. Just noticed it didn't have the point in the center like the lanyard pin. Man I'm glad to know its real! Lol.

Lovely bit of Sebbie there bro! Welcome to the fold! I really can't tell you why some have that point and simple in the back of the thumb stud. My small 21 had it before I got double lugs installed. But my regulars are flat. I imagine it's one of those things that evolve and that little detail is one of the things that just adds an extra little touch. Enjoy it!

I'm loving it already! Lol. I'm a strider guy. Have always loved them. I carry a PT CC every day. Always say I'm gonna carry a sng or a sj75s. I CANT! I always carry the pt. I actually put the pt up this evening. I'm carrying the sebenza tomorrow! Haha.

There should be a time stamp on the ti side. The fakes don't have the stamp on the inner slabs, the fakes use tork screws instead of allen, the fakes will have discoloration on the thumb stud and lanyard pin. The blade on the fakes will have a different finish and the tip on the lanyard pin won't be there. That's the things I look for when I'm looking somewhere else.
Great score!!!!, looks like you can now invent a reason to carry both:)

Thanks for the info. I just looked. It's stamped C 11. Is that March 2011?

They stamp them with a letter for every quarter. Example: A would be January, February, March. C would be July, August, September. And yes 11 denotes the year.

The smooth backside of the thumbstud has appeared often on older models, and this being a 2011, that is not surprising (to my knowledge). It is real, but I'm wondering if the CF scale it has was swapped onto it from a newer model CF Sebenza? Looking at the stop pin design (with the two slots), it is also reminiscent of an older model (which your scale stamp confirms). My guess would be that the CF is from a newer Knife Art CF Sebenza and the rest of the knife is a standard plain Jane Sebenza that was produced as such. Either way, it is totally real, and there are members here with 500x the knowledge of dates and history that I have and I could be totally off.

Looks good to me.
I don't recall when they stopped using the flat backed studs but if it isn't original to the knife somebody either swapped the blade or the CF scale. It should be pretty easy to find out if you don't mind doing the reading, we're pretty obsessive around here and I have no doubt that some fellow forum member would've written a thread about the first release of the dimpled studs and the first CF knife art Sebs.
You could also call Knife Art and ask if they remember when they received the first batch from CRK and compare that to when the new studs were starting to show up on new Sebs.

If it's not a collection piece and intended to be a user I wouldn't bother with any of it, but, sometimes you just need to know and if that's the case- good luck in your quest.

Nice knife! (And real too) to avoid worrying about getting fakes it would be best to buy from authorized dealers and established members on the exchange. There are a lot of fakes on the bay, remember if the price is too good to be true it probably is.
