As the title says, having a hard time deciding on my first sebenza. Which would you choose? Large w/ Micarta and polished blade or Large w/ African Blackwood and polished blade/handle?

Why is that, looks/grip or another reason? And why def. not a polished blade?

SRKnives who are local for me have a Large 21 with no inlay for closer to $400. Maybe i am better off going that route for my first seb. I do love the look of the inlays, they just dont come up very often and i am not patient enough to order straight from crk.

Why micarta over wood? I am thinking of ordering a small insigno with inlays, to flesh out the grip. I think wood is much more attractive, but also want grippiness. Everyone's thoughts?

You dont just have to order from CRK.....Travis with Edge Specialties carries many to pick from...

There is not a right answer here, you will be happy with your knife. I would buy local and get the plain.

Thanks guys, the only good thing with SR over another American based company is I can avoid custom fees and have it today. They are literally 25 minutes from where I work. I still love the look of the wood inlays. Do the wood inlay'd sebs only come with polished blades?

If you order direct from CRK you can get either polished or tumbled, but probably buying from a dealer it would be the factory standard polished blade for a wood inlayed Sebenza.

Tough question.
It depens on the use.
If you plan to use it hard, I'd go for micarta inlays.
If you need it more shiny, then wood would be my choice.
Micarta can take a lot of abuse, at least i'm not (too) afraid to use it and I enjoy that.

Start with the micarta and then get the one with the african blackwood.

Hope this helps.
Let us know how you decide.

As mentioned, micarta for a workhorse, and African Blackwood for EDC or to show off:thumbup:. While I'll personally use even a wood inlaid one at work, I don't expect to come near dirt or anything that might cause scuffing on the handles. Also, I believe the micarta version can be reblasted, whereas I was told the titanium on the wood inlaid version can't be repolished.
