Hey all I posted this in the shop talk forum and was told I shoild post it up down here too..
I know it should come up the handle further but I made a rook mistake and cut the leather to the same size as the paper pattern I had dry fitted the shape with.
it formed pretty tightly and I cant shake the knife out even upside down (over old blanket)

my first attempt at a sheath for my first knife.
just a plain sheath no tooling or anything fancy....

One of the the mini clamps I used to wet form the sheath to the knife. Somehow, through the saran wrap I had it wrapped in, came in contact with the wet leather and turned the it black, any thoughts on fixing this or since it's in the back anyway just leave it?

Not bad for a first attempt! I'd try some leather cleaner, isopropyl alcohol or acetone to clean it. Another suggestion I'd say is to bring it up a little higher on the grip / choil so it encases the knife handle more, more for securing the blade from falling out than anything else.

Not bad for the first one. I agree with the post above about making the sheath a little longer to encase the handle more. As far as the black stains, I you can try the leather cleaner or just stain it black. Try the cleaner first. If that doesn't work try the other.

Glad to see you on this site by the way.

Those black spots on the back....I wouldn't even bother.....it's what we call in the craft...an "oopsie". The important thing is that you've learned from it.
I bought a bag of clamps that have a rubber cup over the clamp part....at Lowes I think.....don't know what I did before them....oh, I member now, i used clothes pins.
Good job construction wise....do it again, you'll only get better....come higher on the handle this time like the others have suggested....looks mo betta!
