Well, finally getting a sheath knife. Never really bought one before, nor do I know much about them. Only ever needed a pocket knife, and haven't bought one of those in over two years after I got my leatherman wave. Anyways. All I can say is after a few days thinking, I'm torn between a sog tsunami or a crkt ultima. But again, total noob. Any comments on either the sog tsunami or the crkt ultimata? Any other suggestions? Mainly looking for something below 100, prefferably with one of those (kydex?) plastic sheaths, that has blade in the 6 to 8 inch range (I think thats what I want, for kind of a beater knife to use in and around the maine woods). Oh, full tang too. Thanks in advance.

first off welcome to the forums!

secondly i would get a standard Ka-Bar. it would be a bit more "hard use" then what you listed, and it has a great warranty, plus its USA made.

i'm going to +1 the standard USMC Ka-Bar. from your post, i think it would serve you very well.

other options would include:
ESEE RC-5 or RC-6
Fallkniven S1, A1 or A2
Bark River Bravo I

Ty gundude, and hmmm. Does the warranty count if I buy from a different site than theres? Because I was looking at a kabar earlier. Either the army version or the tanto.

And I liked the tanto alot better, due to the sheath and no leather to rot.

And ok, kool. I'm looking up some of those other knives know, but what really is the difference between the usmc one and the army one?

And ok. Seems kabar is winning this one. :)

if you buy it new the warranty should be intact.

and you can buy the "USMC" version without the USMC markings and with a sheath like that tanto. my Ka-Bar is a desert tan version and i really like it.

and no problem. glad to help

May look at Entrek knives on the web. Shop around and can find them at dealer sites for $100. I have a javalina and like it a lot. Ray is a really nice guy with great customer service( even if you didn't buy directly thru him)

Take a look at michaelmorrisknives.com, I have one of his "Classic Hunter 8" knives and it's an absolute joy to use.
