Been wanting to give leather work a try b/c want to have more classic options than kydex for the knives I'm making, and for the one's I buy.
Got my box of scrap leather and supplies from Tandy last night. First thing this AM I was ready to start my first try working with leather.
Found some good tutorials online and off we go! I messed up some steps rushing, but the overall I'm happy with the product in the end. Has a little more drying time but pretty much what it is. I like the worn look it ended up having.

The most important part.. the photo!

I also want to give props to Beebe Knives for making a great tutorial.

Thanks guys. I just got some basic tools to start. Getting the "Gold Membership" ended up saving me a good bit of money. To start I just ordered a 5lb box of 5-9oz leather scraps for like $30. It's a ton of leather to learn on and can put out some nice pieces with it.

Outside of liquids (glue, stain, sealer, protectant and applicators) this is what I got:

Craftool Edge Beveler Sz 2
Pro Stitching Groover Set
Craftool Spacer Set
Craftool Scratch Awl
Craftool Circle Edge Slicker
Stitching Needle 10/pk
1 stamp and heavy duty stamp setter (not shown)
white and brown waxed nylon thread (not shown)

I'd like to get an few border stamps, one of the multi use wood edge slickers and some leather shaping/folding tools.

The part that I think is going to be the hardest is getting the process right. I think getting even staining may be a hump too. Good thing I like a worn in look. :-)
Plan on seeing me more in this sub forum.

Wife was like "Great! Another hobby.."

Damn that looks sweet! Looks like polished ironwood. 12ga imprint is cool.

Love it!

Here is another shot. This is a friction folder I made (1084 carbon blade with black/red G10 scales).

Nice work I like it. Nice knife too. Ya just got to explain that its not another hobby it is an evoloution or growth of the knife making. Just another facet. Welcome to this side of BF. Don't heistate to ask. Lots of help here.

You chose your tools wisely. You can get a lot done with those. I have the Tandy nylon bone folder and I love it. I can't comment on the wood one, but I use an antler a lot too.

Glad to have ya here too.
