First sighting!

I would guess a post 2004 Schrade Walden not made by Schrade. It has the wrong typeface used on the shield engraving. There was a three blade knife like this posted last week. Several felt it was made by Camillus.

I say the same as thawk, the seller says he bought it in 1970 though, something not right about this one. to me it screams Taylor

The "DNA" looks like Camillus to me.....think "Yellow Jacket" muskrat, with a different secondary blade. I have nver seen it in Schrade markings like this before though.

I was going to ask what a Hawbaker was, but decided to look it up instead. Looks like a nice pattern. Never seen a Schrade version.

Here is the elusive Schrade Hawbaker; pretty rare!!
SchradeHawbaker-1.jpg

Stanley Hawbaker was a legendary trapper, he wrote many books on trapping and skinning for profit of fur bearing animals. Hawbaker & Sons ran a trappers supply business for many years during the hay days of fur trapping. His methods of the dirt set are still used today. I'm sure that the Hawbaker knives were sold through his catalogs from the 1940's probably until the 70's ? Maybe some of the knife company's just picked up the Hawbaker name to be synonymous with this type of trapper knife.

It seems from looking around the web and ending back at e-bay, The yellow Schrade Walden knife above is actually an SWA787Y made under license from Taylor brands.
most likely by Camillus as the one I saw earlier had the plastic see through packaging.
hard to make out the words on the card insert, although very similar to the one I bought back in late 2004 early 2005 which came with a trapper model.

I think you may be right on the money Rusty.

Thanks for the research and experience, Rusty, Dave, Hawk, KA, S&S.

Hawk, there is no number on the Hawbaker.

Hawk,
The four digits usually signify Schrade Cut. Co., knives that carried over to Schrade Walden usually had the last number dropped due to a change in handle material options. Charlie's knife in the Cut. Co. version was the S7814. The "Hawbaker" part was known as the improved skinning blade. Oddly, this one was only available in Celluloid, while the Waldens such as Charlie's had for a time the beautiful peachseed bone. Nice one Charlie!!

Thawk, these are as close as I can come to a 7803; sorry;)!

Thanks Eric! Two of my favorites.
What are you doing up, gawking at your computer??? No work tomorrow??:D

Charlie,
I'm afraid my addiction is worsening by the day. I spend hours on end surfing between three forum sites and ebay in a never ending cycle that you can set your clock to. I've got my coffee maker and a bottle of eye drops on my desk, with knives and priority mail boxes piled up around me. There's a supply of power bars and Quaker oatmeal squares in my filing cabinet, and a bed pan under my chair. I think I need help:eek:

Eric

PHEW!:p I thought you were going to tell me you weren't normal:eek:! :D

Eric - I think you need to add some energy drinks to get a bigger adrenaline rush working. Charlie - Love those two knives. Interesting the different shields. When you see these, delrin, while nice, well... it just doesn't stand up to these guys. Thanks for the pics!
