The wife and I have been restless and decided to get out of the house today. I threw some 'just in case' supplies in my knapsack and grabbed my new Itou bowie/chopper and Western Boy Scout knife and bundled up. A short drive up the road, we found a promising path I haven't walked before and decided to give it a go. We found the trail to be pretty well marked for snowmobiling and well-maintained so I wasn't too worried about getting lost with my eight-month pregnant wife.
The scenery was beautiful and the snow was falling lightly while we walked. I love the first real snowfall of the year when it's still a reasonable temperature outside and you aren't up to you knees in white stuff. We walked about 100 yards in and I decided to try out my Itou and make myself a nice temporary walking stick. I selected a green sapling and in two easy chops, the blade was through the inch and a quarter base. Not too shabby!
As we walked, I rounded the sharp edges off the top of my stick with the Boy Scout knife and we stopped by a small stream to snap a pic of the two knives together.
We continued on about a half-mile more and the sound of running water was getting a bit louder. About 20 yards form the trail, I found a hill that lead down to a nice wide stream.
After I hauled myself back up the slippery hill, carefully trying not to break an ankle in the wet and snowy leaves and sliding miserably every other step, I had Denny snap a victory photo of me.
It was around this time that Den decided she'd had enough traipsing about in the snow and chucked me the bird.
All in all, it was a nice time and a good first snow hike. Anybody else got any snow pics yet? Sorry about the crappy quality of mine, I need a decent digi.
