For a while there, I thought global warming had completely taken over, and abolished Winter in our Coastal Rainforest. Vancouver my current home sits right in the middle of that Rainforest, which stretches down into the United States, and well up the West Coast of Canada.
But finally it got cold enough, and we got that nice Winter Wonderland "purifying" of the landscape. A few inches of white, especially the first of the year dazzles the eye, and suggests a new beginning for the soul!
A few inches of White came in the mail also; and it duplicates that stupifying effect!
Check this baby out!

In honor of the current Elephant population, the "tooth" on this is a re-use of a tusk acquired 100 years ago or so. Carbon steel blades, and nicely designed and made, this knife is a near perfect EDC for an old "gent" like me. Abe Lincoln carried a similar one, and he is one of my all time heroes -and that's just the beginning!
Semi-sunk joints, thin single spring construction, a nice choice of blades for a city slicker. But I have no doubt I could build a lean-to, and start a fire with the help of this piece of fine cutlery art!!!
At 3 3/4" long it is no shrinking violet, yet it lays slim and light in the pocket, obviating the need for suspenders, bib jeans or helium balloons.
And the little bit of Flash monogram from the bolsters, and the richness of that classic handle material, plus the difficult-to-perfect flat beveled surfaces, makes it an astounding bit of eye candy! Yummm!
I guess I'm not as humble as old Honest Abe - delusions of grandeur come to mind!!:D
But I'll live with it! This knife more than equals my Tomato (in the last pic), in fact she's just a little jealous. But I've got a lot of pockets!
And to think, I used to have no time for a Congress pattern! I just thought they were big blocky things that rode with you in your bib jeans like a brick!
Thanks, GEC, for another one.

We got snow here in Scandiland not long ago, Christmas was 'black' almost unheard of. The white stuff has returned with a vengeance now though, still, it makes driving actually easier- you can see the road edges, not that endless black with rain&headlights shining off it. Gives the winter tyres something to 'bite' on too! Just wish the daylight were more!

Those knives bring a lot of sunshine&hope, very nice pair there, I really like some of the acrylics that GEC have issued, old school cell without the nasty manners. Gladdening too to hear that the ivory is re-cycled, I just can't bring myself to be part of shooting such noble giants for their teeth (let them be harvested when they die of natural causes). Half Congress is a very pocketable knife, the full congress is OK if you opt for a sleek&small un otherwise it really is like a cobble-stone in the pocket!

It was/is 68F here today. Expecting a freeze tonight. We don't usually get snow and I don't think we will tonight, but we can still get some before winter is over. I've had just enough snow over the years to not miss it when we don't have any. Be that as it may, that congress is very pretty; I think you will enjoy it for a long time. Certainly long after the snow is gone.

Nice knives! We here, in Bavaria had at some places a lot of snow. For example in the Bavarian Forest (which is about 80 kilometres away) they almost got over a metre, already. There it´ll become much more, the next days. I have to go there on Thursday. Will be a big difference against here. Here in the hillside near austrian border had some dirty and wet snowfall. Already some snow, but it was too warm. When it comes now, it will be like a hammer. Some years there was no snow until end of january. Then we had about half a metre, all heavy and wet. Til the end of February. Disgusting to drive and so on... We hope the best, here.

Kind regards
Andi

haven't had any snowfall here in Arkansas all year, in fact right now its almost 50 degrees outside in fact the high today was in the 60s!
anyway I have had my eye on a deluxe congress in banana bone the last couple of days. Just wish they came with a equal size spear blade to go with the wharnie. but oh well maybe my wish will be answered later this year.

This is neat ---a weather reporting/knife thread. It's cold here in Kansas, and those knives are really nice. I'm still loving the Tomato, got one of my own and carry it several times a week. Very nice and thanks so much for showing them to us.

Thats a beauty.Perfect blades for slicing and whittling.Love to carry something similar. When i complain to my friend in upstate NY about it being cold,he always asks the question,....What's cold? And then i have to admit anything under 50 F.( : We do get a snow once in a while.Last Christmas we had about 6".But i think it was 60 or 70 3 days later.:D

That is an amazing, elegant knife. I have no doubt that the perfection visible in those photos would continue no matter how close up you took the shot.

I'm happy such perfection lies in the hand of one who so richly appreciates it.

Edited To Add: What is this white substance you refer to as "snow"?

There is a cold front on the move here but seeing that congress makes it cozy. I'm sure you'll get the same feeling with it in your pocket.

The knives are great, but your evident enthusiasm makes them all the more fun to oggle. :)

The Congress is a naughty one
tusk tusk tusk
Quite special........

We also have snow on our one 2000 meter mountain

What a beauty, congratulazioni! I like so much the Tomato knife, also :-)
Winter was someway weird here too: -8°C at the night, but sunny all the days and no snow at all this year...strange.
The sunset yesterday from my window

Current conditions:

37/21 hi/low
partly cloudy
wind - W 21mph

So really, I got to thinking, and didn't want to hijack your thread, but do you know how GEC makes the acrylic handles?

Like this one or example?

I keep looking at it and the names they give the handles. Any info?

Thanks

sweet knife, I am sitting here enjoying the same snow storm as waynorth, just a little to the south. steven

We got a light coating of snow last night. The weather has been really weird here, freezing temps, snow, rain, warm T-shirt weather and now the temps are dropping again.

That Ivory is awesome, great knife!!!

Thanks for the nice comments Frank (and everyone!)!
So you never see snow in San Diego?? Pity; everyone should have a little Snow in their lives, if only to appreciate the beauty of the nice climate they live in. Every time I visit my brother in Pasadena, the weather is perfect!! San Diego also!!
Nice view Alfredo!
Kevin, I believe GEC buys the various materials already laminated. "Tomato" comes in a cast block or sheet of acrylic. The pearlescent ones are made of layers - a clear coat on top. Anyone have more details?

That is a great looking knife Charlie. I think GEC has put your tusk to good use. I have a Christmas lights #61, but I find myself very tempted to pick up an ivory version as well now.
