First snowshoe excursion of the winter!

Hi All,

Well, I finally made it out for the first snowshoe excursion of the year. What a treat! We are dealing with ice, slush, and rain in Toronto, but up on Blue Mountain, there is a 1.5 – 2ft covering of snow, with deeper drifts. I spent the morning and afternoon wandering about the woods, deliberately staying off the trails (no need for a trail when you can walk through the woods without worrying about underbrush!).

Fashionable footwear:

My JK Anniversary Knife accompanied me on this hike. It made short work of the dead, snow-laden branches that got in my way. I was a bit worried that the snow would rust the O-1 before I had the chance to get back home and dry it off, but it held up nicely. The beefy handle was easily gripped with my gloves. This is a terrific knife, and, as you can see from the patina, it has seen a bit of use!

Thanks for looking. Happy trails – snow-covered or otherwise – to everyone!

Excellent. Our snow is all messed up: too many days of freezing and thawing. But snowshoe weather is coming and I am stoked!

awesome pics Mike.. i haven't seen that much snow in a long time.. i'm a little jealous too..:o we have been getting dumped on by rain for the past few days...

that JK knife looks great man.. nice and worn in.. love the patina...:)

Great pics buddy, we had snow this morning but it was only a dusting and dissapeared within a couple of hours !!!

Wow! Awesome pictures! Been years since i saw it like that here...maybe this year.

Ha, sorry for rubbing it in, gents. I'm sure we will be getting some actual seasonal weather to the south in a few weeks. Also, even though I get to enjoy some great weather up north on weekends, don't forget that I live and work in Toronto, where 'wilderness' is hard to come by. I need my weekend fixes!

All the best,

- Mike
