I was sitting in a hunting cabin Friday night with no one to talk to but my dog so I did some whittling to pass the time. This is my first attempt at a spoon. I used nothing but a Case mini trapper and Bark River Huntsman. Now I just need to hit it with some sandpaper to take off the rough edges and finish it. What would be a good finish to use that won't affect the taste of food....linseed oil?

Linseed oil will ruin it for food. I use food-grade mineral oil. Same stuff you use for cutting boards.
Nice work, with somewhat awkward tools for spoon making!

Great job for a first try!!

I use food-grade mineral oil. Same stuff you use for cutting boards.

Some stores will list it as butcher block oil. I believe it's the same stuff you get at the pharmacy and the pharmacy should be a bit cheaper.

Thanks guys, I will pick up some mineral oil to treat the wood.

As mentioned, that definitely wasn't easy with only those two knives, I am an no hurry to do another one!
