I've been feeding my HI obsession, but now I want a good folder. I rarely read anything bad about spyderco, and the sharpmaker is a fine product.

I'm looking for a one hand opener, medium size for around 50-75maybe as high as 100 dollars. Of course I'd like to spend as little as possible, but I'm probably going to pick up a KaBar Dozier for a very inexpensive knife as well.

There are so many knives and my wants are pretty vague, which is partially intentional, cause I'd like to hear why a particular knife is the best.

I think that 2 of Spyderco's knives that would be good to start out with would be the Dodo and The Calypso Jr. Both knives have premium blade steel
( S30V & VG-10) respectively. You will be amazed at the versatility of Spyderco's short bladed knives. :)

Calypso Jr. can actually be found for a bit less than you're looking to spend, but a fine mid size slicer, excellent steel, full flat grind, and the grey fish-scale textured handle is, IMHO, the best looking one on an FRN Spyderco. Also, possibly due to the color, handle texturing, or both, seems to raise fairly few eyebrows among the terminally timid.

C41 Native, just make sure you get the latest version with S30V steel. American made, great steel, great egronomics, fits the hand well and rides comfortably in the pocket. I'd rate it as the toughest of the FRN Spydercos. Not quite as sheeple friendly as the Calypso Jr.

C90 Stretch, one of Spydercos newest models. A bit bigger that the others, and right at the top end of your price range but, IMHO, well worth it. Great steel, stainless handles with kraton inserts on both sides for grip, 4 way clip can be mounted to accomodate any carry style, 14mm thumb hole for ease of opening, traction grooves in thumb ramp and choil, full flat grind for superior slicing. Quite light for a stainless handled knife, and packs max possible blade into the available handle space.

I'd have second, the Calypso Jr. as a good first choice. The price comes on the low end of your range, a great knife for the value, performance, ease of use and quality. Another first Spyderco would be the Endura. I started with that one and found it great despite doubts about the atypical looks and shape. If you plan on using the blade for smaller tasks, the Calypso is fine. For bigger jobs, the Endura can show you how tough a Spyderco can be. Either one is a winner.

I just got Spyderco Endura Plain. It is ment as a Christmas gift for my friend. I am sure he wont be disappointed. Enough blade with flat grind VG 10 steel FRN handles.

I got it from newgraham.com for $46,50.

Newgraham has nice prices for me. AFAIK lowest I was able to find on net.

I usually also order from newgraham.com. I can find the knives a little cheaper at other sites but since newgraham is only one state away from me when I order by ground from them its like getting 2nd day air... so thats really awesome and makes it worth the couple extra dollars. I also just got an Endura and I am very impressed with it and it is now my EDC even though its a little small for my taste.

What are the pros and cons of the calypso jr vs. a delica? I see that there is only a few dollars difference in cost and the delica's blade is 1\8th inch longer.
