Hey Guys,

I am looking to purchase my first spyderco, I got a Manix 2 (the lightweight one) but ended up trading it off again before I used it. I've narrowed it down a bit and was wondering if you guys could narrow it down further for me?

Yojimbo 2: I dig the blade design and it looks handy, not sure if the blade type is harder/easier to sharpen as I've never had a wharnie type blade before, also at the very top of my budget.

Para 2: what is there to say? Heck of a classic design and just works

Jot Singh Khalsa: Definitely the most unique design, works for some, not for others. Sprint run so if I want one new now will probably be the last chance.

Dyad: Utilitarian design, two blades to use for different purposes. Probably the bulkiest (thickest) though.

Out of these, what would you pick and why? Any that I am missing or should add to the list?

Thanks!

PM2 as it's the most normal out of the bunch.

I've always been interested in the Yojimbo, the design is cool as a cucumber. Not sure if it pockets well but it looks like a hell of a cutter.

I'd do the Yojimbo, it's a morphed and beefed up exacto blade IMO, it slices just as well as anything, if you tend to use a lot of exacto knife this will be a very good fit.

the paramilitary 2 IMO has the best ergos and the most appealing shape. the lock is also fantastic

Para 2 for an EDC. I also agree with what Lycosa said. If you are uncertain a delica or endura can be a much less expensive way to try spyderco

You had a Manix LW and got rid of it.

Get it back.

Or a Delica.

Yojimbo "pockets" very well actually, however it's not very public use friendly if that might be a factor for you. I waited far too long to jump on the Para2 bandwagon, they're great! Gayle Bradley is a fine knife too, and the GB2 will be out soon...

Para 2 from your choices, but as others have said Delica/Endura would be a better choice. And if you shop around you could get both for the price of any of the others you mentioned

Para 2. Mainly because I have a major para bug right now. I've ignored them for a while, one of the guys behind the counter of my local knife shop handed me one the other day and it melted into my hand. And now I have to have one.

Seriously though, if you're wanting to try out spydercos start with one of the classics. Out of all the ones you listed, you might or might not like some of them because they're more one off designs. The para is a classic, along with the endura and Delica. Try a classic design, see if you like the ergos and feel, then go from there.

para military 2,why'because sooner or later you will end up having one any way!just get it now, then you can start collecting other spyderco's.

I am leaning more and more towards the Para. I would try the endura or delica, but I am REALLY not a fan of the FRN handles.

There have been a LOT of converts to frn who didn't initially think they liked it. Lots of folks didn't like those "plastic" Glocks either. ;) I'm not trying to convince you to like something that you don't, I'm just suggesting not to completely write it off until you have carried and used one for awhile. There's a reason those models are so well loved. At any rate, you cannot go wrong with the paramilitary 2. I would definitely suggest that of the ones you listed.

The Delica 4 has alot of flaws, IMO. Intrinsic blade play, opens slowly, many dont like the pocket clip, FRN is "plastic" etc... But, when I reach for a knife to put in my pocket in the morning, its usually my Delica 4 ZDP-189 (I'd carry VG-10 if I had one). The ergonomics fit my large hands better than any other folder I have held in its size range. Being comfortable in my hand and supremely locked in with the volcano grip FRN and jimped ramp trump all the flaws and downsides. It's important to note that the handle material on the Manix 2 LW (which I also own) is not the same material as the FRN on the Japanese knives. I believe Spyderco calls it FRCP (co-polymer) and it has a more rigid and toylike feel to me. The Delica also has a steel liner lacking on the Manix 2 LW. It sounds like you may have prematurely dismissed the plastic handle material before you really gave it a chance. IMO, the Delica warrants giving the material another chance.

In general I would take the lightweight and strong frn over g10 - 9 out of 10 times.

I might just do one to try it out, they have orange, which is a plus haha

I just happen to have 5 of the Para2's ( different Scales and Steel is the only difference ) ~~ need I say more.? lol
I think I like them ~~ but then again I have been a Spyderco Fan for many-- many years now and I always will be in the future == God willing.!
