Iv'e got a Spyderco Tenacious coming in the mail tomarrow.

How tough is this knife for EDC? Just asking because this will be my first Spyderco knife.

Lots of people like it, but you will also find a thread where a guy broke the tip off of his while prying on some drywall. I asked a question not long ago about how the Tenacious compares to the Paramilitary 2 so you might be able to find that thread.

It's a great knife to kick off your Spyderco collection. It's pretty sturdy and has a good steel. It should be adequate for all your basic EDC needs. Just be careful when unscrewing the screws as some people have stripped them when removing the clip. Hope you enjoy it!

Very good, I used mine for the heavier uses that I run into as an electrician, even used it to cut the windows out of an old FEMA trailer we were scrapping out, tough knife. I gave that one to a guy at work that admired it greatly, and promptly felt the void, turned around and ordered another to replace it. I carry both a Leek composite/ g10 hybrid and a waved Endura at the moment, until I get home and put the Tenacious back into my pocket, then the Endura may go back to resting comfortably and getting rotated through the EDC rotation when I am on land. I love the Tenacious, just wish it was made here, and with a little better steel, say a D2 blade... hint, hint

A Very Tough Folder.
Very Great And You Cannot Beat The Price.
It Cuts And Performs And Carries As Well As A $60+ Dollar Knife.
It's An Excellent Knife And Tough As Nails, Especially For The $30 You Spend On It.
It's Well Worth More Than What They Ask.

It's Especially A Great First Spyderco.

Thanks for the replies. I figure it will be one of those edc's that get's flipped out and banged around for the rough and dirty jobs. Glad to know that it'll be up to the task!!

They already make that! It's called the Paramilitary 2. Compare the Tenacious to the Para2 and you will find that their configurations are very similar.

How so? I don't see it...

I chose the Persistence over the Tenacious and have been pleased with it. The steel liners are quite thick which makes the lock and handle a little more sturdy and the 8Cr13MoV blade is pretty decent. The best part is certainly the price which makes it easier to replace if I manage to break it; I have no qualms about abusing it a bit or using it for dirty jobs.

my first spyderco was a Tenacious, it's a great value, still use it even though i recently added a CF millie. the steel is real easy to sharpen, and the FFG is made to slice.

mine has seen 3 years of daily use (i am a shipwright ) inc prying , splitting wood , scrapeing if i have to pry wich i will try to avoid . i use the spine of the blade for prying .
i touch the working edge up with a chefs steel every few days and have only hit the water stones twice since ive had it .
its my hardest use work folder .....i luuuuuvs ma spydie

I have the blue on pre-order as well. I also ordered the all black one and I may do a FrankenSpydie and put the black blade on the blue handle.

I've used my Persistence (smaller version) daily for about a year for similar work: morticing hinges, digging out dry rot, removing trim. Great knives, hard workers.

Disassembly can be a problem, some people complain about stripping the screws.

The overall look is very similar- handle shape, blade shape.

Blade: 3.39" vs 3.44",
Handle: 4.45" vs 4.81",
Open length: 7.76" vs 8.28"
So the main difference visually is about 3/8" of handle length.

I had a thread where I asked for a comparison of the 2 and people posted comparison photos.

It was my first folder ever, its what got me into the addiction of buying fixed and folding.

Great knife and still carry it almost everyday along with my Strider and Carbon fiber Sebbie, and it keeps up just fine ;)

Just got home and the Tenacious was in my mailbox. Here are my first impressions:

-it feels a bit larger in my hands than I thought it would. Which is a good thing, it fits perfectly. For some reason I was just expecting it to be a bit smaller.
-The blade is super sharp out of the box.
-The clip is really tight which I like. Won't be slipping out of the pocket.
-Everything feels tight and right with the knife. Easy one handed open and close.
-It also locks up nice when opened and closed.
-It's defect free and seems to have been a great buy. I'll use it daily and put it through the paces. I expect it to do just fine.

I'll use it for a few days and get back to you all. I'll even post pics. Thanks for all the feed back.

I just got the all black version the other day. I was hesitant to buy it, as I tend to stray away from "cheap" knives. I actually thought I would end up being disappointed with it. I was pleasantly suprised when it arrived. The fit and finish and overall quality look very good. Nice lock-up, no blade play, and a perfectly centered blade. Very sharp, and the black finish is nicely done. Good blade retention as well. Only minor issue was that my pocket clip was very tight, a bit too tight for me. I bent it slightly in my vise and it's perfect now. I might even buy myself another one. Just my observations thus far, sorry I can't comment on the toughness yet

Was my first Spydie and have absolutely no complaints. Don't pry with any knife - no matter what the faithful may tell you to the contrary.
